How to disable the SRS system / light

I read the DIY on how to reset it and I plan on trying to do that tonight. But if that does not work I want to disable the light or the whole system if needed. I am trading in the car and do not want to deal with the head ache.

I had swapped out my 2002 seats for seats from a 2001 and the light came on when I turned the car on. I think everything was pluged in but I did hit my alarm when the seats where out so i guess that could have trigger it.

Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the reply.

I did that already in the past and got it to work. I have not tried it yet. I was looking for the"what if the srs light does not go off after the reset" fix. I do not care if it is not working as I am trading in the car. Short of removing the light bulb from the dash I would like to know if there is a way to disable the light permanently??

permanently? yea, take out the bulb...

i think the only way you can get the srs light to go off permanently is to go to the dealership...but they'll charge u an arm and a leg, best bet is to take out the light

Would you feel guilty if someone bought the car, then got into an accident and was killed because the SRS was not working?

Just plug the seats in, and reset the thing. Do the right thing. If someone ripped you off by selling you a defective car, you would be extremely pissed off.

And i was saying that I am going to try to reset it but if that does not work i do not want to have to deal with the dealer and pay out the *** to fix / disable it.

All you have to do is reset it. Everytime you disconnect any SRS wires, the light will stay on until it's reset. Either do it yourself or take it to the dealership and they'll do it.

by the way, this has nothing to do with being humane, its completely illegal. if you disconnect any of the SRS stuff and sell it, you can be liable if you dont inform them that you did that. Its right up there with changing mileage on an odometer. If you dont believe me, search the net. Just cover your *** and tell them, let them reset it. If youre trading it in, its their headache to figure out how to reset it.
