vtec to i-vtec conversion<--fantasy?
hey honda heads, ran across a web site that said that a d17 ex could be made i-vtec with alot of work, and would theoretically(sp?) produce 140hp...any thoughts? i don't care if its a alot of work, i think i might like to do it...unless its totally unreasonable.

I don't think you can just plug something in and get the VTC. Its far more complicated than that. The timing advance and retard range on the K series is simply amazing. I don't think its something you can accomplish with a single cam anyways, there's not enough room for variation.
Don't drink and post, you will end up hilarious.

1) the head wouldn't line up, nor bolt up
2) to the best of my knowledge, the K series motor spins the opposite direction of the D series,
3) You can have a D17 ECU, or a K20 ECU, but not both (to the best fo my knowledge), the K series head would require specific functions of the K20 ECU. While the rest of the car would need the D17 ECU to run correctly. This is not a straight foward swap like a LS vtec, this is completely different.
Theres a slew of reasons why this swap wouldn't work. You'd have about the same chance of success trying to moddify a b18C5 head to fit on the D17, its just not happening.
