DIY: Blue Dashlight DIY
I did everthing, but was not able to do the guages. It took the guages apart and was not able to get where you take the gels out and put the new ones in. Could somebody please help me?
Thanks
Thanks
I'm thinkin about doin the guages soon, it will be good enough until I get my AC Reverse Indiglos, when I do it myself, I'll post up some more indepth instructions other than banging your head into a wall.
Take your fingers and just slide em off. You do mean the 3 dials right? just pull em straight out, takes a little bit of forearm, but you can get it if anything, take 2 flattipped screwdrivers and pop em off. like this
= screwdrivers
O is the dial
=O=
and pop out.

ok im not sure so if i am wrong someone feel free to correct me... i believe that if you flip the change thing down there is a screw in the top of that hole and if you remove that you can pry the part with the mirror and cruise buttons out. someone emailed me about the a/c and the other two buttons in the center dash... there are two screws one on each side of the button housing just like the heat and a/c ***** take the two screws out and it should come out

Anyone who wants to change the color of their dash lights, just drop me an e-mail and I'll hook you up with the instructions. I did it myself in a couple hours last weekend, but I had no real directions to follow - just figured it out on my own. I'll tell ya how though, probly save you some time.
Lemme know!

OK for some reason the other DIY I did wont load(at least for me) which is the one just below this one on the DIY page hopefully tonight I will have the link back up and corrected in all of the threads and maybe the cruise control and mirror buttons as well as the a/c-rear defrost buttons... the three below your radio
Does anyone have some good pics of the dash lights after they have been done. I have heard of a couple ways of doing it and it seems like the gel is the only thing that will give a blue apperance.
As of right now, there isn't a better way. And I reccomend you read the rest of the post, your question has been answered before. Condoms=easy = not quite pure color, but probably sufficient for most people. LEDs = medium difficulty, mainly time consuming, not much more expensive, but will give you the results you want, there's really no comparing bulbs to LEDs. Try the condoms, worst case scenario you're out 15$
yeah i read the rest after i replied,
i did the LEDs and they look pretty good, i still need to do the ones soddered to the circuit board for the circ/ac/defrost buttons
and im still waiting on the damn indiglo gauges
also the led's i got for the bottom buttons arent bright enough so im gonna get some "superbright" ones online
the "condoms" or sleeves arent as bright, neither are the gels
led is the way to go, and its not that hard

Hey Rob, great to hear you did the LEDs
I'm working on the Gauges right now, and if you were able to do the buttons, I'm betting you'd easily be able to do the gauges, the only difference is the film has to be rubbed off with acetone (not hard, just time consuming). I'm going to be making a DIY just as soon as I get my LED twist in bulb replacements... I'm pretty sure that the ones I bought can just "twist in replace" the ones behind out gauges, but they look completely different than the ones for the buttons... So all was not in vain... If you're looking for superbringhts, you might try either http://www.lc-led.com or www.superbrightleds.com If you check out superbrightLEDs check out their car bulbs, you can replace most if not all of your stock lights with LEDs, like your interior lights with the 168s and the smaller of the festoon bulbs. I'll post a message in the 7thgen forums when I'm done with the DIY. Bill

Bill ok, I got my twist in LEDs that replace the stock ones, and the ones from superbrightleds do fit, you just gotta get them goin in the right way, however the bulbs are NOT flattened off at the tops, so I was getting bad hot spots, and didn't have but 5 minutes to swap the lights out. Pretty blue, but not enough light yet, I'll work on the lights this weekend I hope. Bill
