Yes they stopped making becasue so few cars use it. Since far more cars use 5w20, they just switched their 0w20 line to a 5w20 line. You should be able to find 5w20 mobil 1 though. There is very little differance between the 5w20 and 0w20.

They still make M1 0w-20, i just put some in my car yesterday. Its the newest SM GF-4 formula too, not the older stuff. Try walmart if you are having trouble finding it

**Ok so i guess the latest reply wasn't 15 hours ago like the thread list said.. Didn't realize the latest reply was over a year old.

Hey...

How many quarts of oil does the 02 EX take? Because I used to always take my EX to the dealer, but the synthetic oil change is becoming pretty expensive. My EX has 71K. What's a good brand of synthetic oil and what filter? I have to do my oil change this weekend.

I just switched to synthetic and used mobil 1 5W20 synthetic which I picked up at autozone. Also used a K&N filter. There's alot of good stuff out there its all personal preference really. I also used about 4 and a half quarts. We overfilled it a bit but not too much.

valvoline max life 5w-20

its alot better than switching to synth. oil because synth. oil lacks in somethign called "moly" and cars with higher milages benifite from oils that have alot of moly....

to be honest guys, you guys(those have not been using it since day 1) who are N/A that are using M1 are really not doing anything but wasting money....it has litto gains but the amount of money spent...

just use a good oil (like maxlife if u have 70k+) and change it every 3-5k and buy some LC-20 and FP60 for ur car....

its alot better than going synth.

//////////edit

i realize i didnt answer ur questin. it is 3.7liters (you can pour 4liters w/o any problems...most shops do)

i usually pour exactly 3.7L because i have to pour 3.7oz of LC20...and 1oz for every 1k miles after that....

///////////////////////////edit again

you can just buy ur own oil and filter, and take it too a shop or something (like ez lube or and small shop) and they will charge you like 10 bucks for labor

My '03 ex takes 3.7 quarts by the book, but usually 3.5 does the job just fine. If you have your mind made up on synthetic, i'd go with pennzoil platinum for $3.97 at walmart, or $5.7x buy one get one free at advance auto parts.

And to set the record straight.. Synthetic oil does contain moly.
My uoa of mobil 1 5w-20 showing 55ppm of moly
http://home.comcast.net/~apexigsx/m1june.jpg
My uoa of valvoline synpower 5w-20 showing 23pm of moly
http://home.comcast.net/~dsmphotos/blackstoneaug.jpg

Yes, most conventional oils contain more moly than synthetics, with the exception of Red Line and a few others. But moly isn't everything, i can't stress that enough. It's the entire package that makes an oil, not one single additive.

It's simple to do an oil change, but I did the search and a couple of of members say to replace the bolt and washer from the oil pan. Truthfully, I've never heard of that, but if it's recommended then let me know and I'll get that as well. Now, when it comes to measuring how much oil to pour in, I'm questioning it because I only know in quarts. How do I know when I have poured in 3.7L of oil in the engine?

Look at the dip stick once in a while, dont forget that after a car runs, the oil level may go lower, so check after you have turned it on and back off again.

OMG JUST STOP BACK AWAY FROM YOUR CAR NOW!

Firstly, do you have an owners manual? I would hope you do. Look in there.

Second, if you are doing anything to your car by yourself, especially if you are asking questions like you are, you NEED to buy a Haynes and/or a Honda shop manual for your car. Look in there before you do anything!

Finally, your Civic takes oil in quarts NOT liters. And i'm pretty sure it takes 3.7 quarts. The easiest way to measure this is to look at the side of most bottles of oil. There should be a clear part where you can see how much oil is in the bottle. Empty 3 quarts into your car, then the last bottle empty .7 quarts, left and about .3 left in the bottle. There should be lines and numbers on the bottle to indicate this. Remember, change your filter also and dispose of the oil properly.

Now as for me I use Valvoline DuraBlend 5W-20. Right now I have Fram filters all around. I use the DuraBlend because it's made for tough driving conditions and high-heat which is all year round here pretty much.

It takes about 20 min.s if you have everything on hand, and you do it the right way. Easy stuff man and it makes you feel better. Just dont tighten your oil pan bolt with all your might I learned the hard way and had to replace my oil pan and this was after about 1 1/2 yrs of changing my oil on my own which I still think since my car is lowered I hit something and just happend to notice it when I was changing my oil.

i would never use fram filters, they break down and let dirt and particles into your engine, imo

the fram number is PH7317, and it takes three quarts of vavoline 5W-20. you can get a different level of oil if you choose to. thats just the basic kind. underneith your car, your oil pan is the first one. put a drip pan underneith it it. the bold size is 17mm. once you drain it, put the bolt back in. and the filter is straight abouve it, so all you got to do is reach up and turn it to the left. it will drain just a little more. dont have your car running for a long period of time cause the oil will be hot. after that just install the new filter, tighten it, and at the top put three quarts of oil in.

Don't say that. The car has to be warmed up, or the oil will be so thick it won't completely flow out of the engine and it'll flow very slowly.

I realize what you're saying, but people may misintrepret that the car needs to be cold.

It doesnt really matter, I prefer to do it cold so that the oil doesnt run down from the oil filter when taking it off.

It's harder to get all the oil out of the engine when it's cold. Yeah, it works, but a hot change is more thorough.

Technically, most of the oil should be sitting in the oil pan already when its cold, that's why there is no oil leaking from the oil filter.
