no center console=better shifting?

ok sorry if this id the wrong forums to post but it seemed the most appropriate.
im in the middle of fabricating a screen in side of the double din. so ive been driving around without the center console, ie the ac controls and radio. i took out just the emergency light switch because it was needed in order for the signal lights to work.
so today was the frist day driving without the center console for i just took it out lsat night. and i noticed in my AT civic that the shifting was more precise and quick. before the shifting was a bit laggy and it would have a little delay before going into the next gear.

am i going crazy or is this really happening?
how come this only happens with the radio out?
will a grounding kit help me get the same shifting performance with the radio in?
thanks, help a newb out.
