Go buy K&N Filter Cleaner.

Remove the Air Filter
Vacuum the filter well to remove any excess dirt
Apply a good amount of K&N cleaning solution to the filter
Let the cleaning solution set in for 10 minutes
Hose off the filter with water until no cleaner remains
Let filter air dry for at least an hour, and do not use an air compressor to accelerate the drying process
Apply the K&N oil to the filter, so that the filter material returns to a dark pink color
Touch up any un-oiled spots after a couple minutes
Let the filter dry for at least 20 minutes
Reinstall the filter

after the k&n cleaning solution is applied to the filter and your going to rinse it, make sure your rinsing from the inside of the filter out, at least for one full rotation. otherwise you will be pushing dirt into the gauze filter element

I just cleaned my AEM one this weekend and I found out after you soak it in the soap for 10 min take the water to the inside of it and rinse it till the water goes clear. That will make sure you have all the red die out of the filter. Took about 2 turns for me.
