Exclamation Cat. Converter Gone??

My check engine light came on last night (friday) and i thought it was the ATI sensor wasnt on all the way cause I just replaced my custom intake with an AEM SRI..

I took it to HONDA today (saturday) and the computer said it was "CATALYST DETERIORATION" .. they said they will reset it and see what happens ... well it came back on later in the afternoon... and i parked and watched the hockey game then it was gone again...

I talked with a HONDA tech and he said my CAT's probibly gone...

Engine mods.. SRI intake / exhaust with 2 1/4 piping...and 55 shot of ZEX (used 3-5 times last season) i use 94 octane in the summer and 91 in the winter

anyone have anything on this issue or have had the same problem???

I had the exact same issue with my 2K1. The engine light came on with no adverse performance difference. Honda did the same thing, checked the code (catalyst breaking down), reset my computer and said wait until it comes on again. The next morning it came on so I called up Honda and they replaced my CAT under warranty (8 years or 160,000 kms). Incidently, my gas mileage has jumped up by about 5 - 7 mpg, so I figure something must have been wrong. I consistantly get about 40 mpg..... and that ain't 'cause I drive like Grandma... if you know what I mean.

CapYoda has a spectacular aura aboutCapYoda has a spectacular aura about
mileage?

but sometimes the cat does die early due to excessive waste output from engine.. its usually associated with some malfunction in the engine though.. or where exhaust is so hot that it burns the catalyst in the convertor... eventually building up and causing other problems..

it should be replaced under warranty as mentioned above.

Is the only reason why you are running 94 octane because of your nitrous kit? How long have you been using 94 octane? I think you might have been running rich due to the fuel's resistance to ignition. Possibly the unburnt hydrocarbons are causing your cat to wear down prematurely. Have you noticed any backfiring or anything?
