DIY: Passenger Door Lock Switch

I finally got sick of not having a passenger door lock switch. What do you think? BTW I have a bunch of install pictures.

As long as you can do some basic wiring and dremel work you should be fine.

I bought the new switch and extra passenger handle from Majestic honda (just get the switch for the driver's side). I Found the plug that goes into the switch from a sixth gen in the junk yard.

First you have to cut the hole for the switch with a Dremel and mount it to the handle using the driver's side as a guide. I used epoxy and built up a base with a wall molly.

A comparison

Next find a plug that will fit. I found one from a wrecked sixth gen which fit perfectly

Next I attached a harness to the plug

From there it's just a matter of running the wires to the driver's side by the foot rest where the wires come out from the driver's door.

Through the door with the existing door harness

Behind the glove box attached to existing wiring

Under the steering column

Check the color of the wires coming off of the driver's side switch and attach where they come into the footwell area.(mine were white/green, white/blue, and black.

Another finished pic

Oh well. I'll save this for later. I'm not about to open up all that stuff again just to run wires. Thanks for the info though!

I hear ya. I've actually had the handle and switch together for the past few months, but wasn't looking forward to taking the panels off and running wires. I finally had the time and a full case of Corona which gave me the drive to get it done

nice job but bleh...

i dont like it when passengers play with my car anyways...

also, why dont you modify the switch so thieves cant use a coat hanger to hook the switch? ie. make the switch flat so it cant be hooked.

bleh?
I guess I'm not too worried about coat hanger weilding thieves. Not much to take out of my car.

hi,

I am still surprised you get chrome as stock. Is that standard for 2001-2005?

I tried majestic honda, it does not specify if the handle itself is chrome or not...

i think i need to do this, cause whenever i open the passenger door for my g/f, i have to open my own door with my key or she has to reach all the way across to open my door. it'll be easier for her to just flip up the switch and boila! the doors will be open
