I have a wierd buzzing (almost like a ricey sound if you can call it that) when you hold at 1500 rpm when the car first starts, while in neutral with ebrake on and clutch fully disengaged.
The reason why i am holding it at that rpm level is to determine where the sound is coming from. It seems to be coming from the passenger side of the engine bay.
When cruising in third or fourth gear steady at around 2000 - 2500 rpm that buzzing sound can also be heard.
However once the car is accelerating or cruising anywhere above 2000 - 2500 rpm the buzzing sound is gone.
Wierd thing though, the sound can sometimes be heard, and sometimes it cannot be heard.
It started to happen about two weeks ago maybe even a week ago.
The car is a 2001 Civic Si (EX - US) the engine is all stock no modifications at all.
Can anyone give me a clue as to what is happening ?

Check the heat shields thru out your exhaust path
my 01 civic DX did the same thing
never found it but it went away?
but mine was more of a rattle
if the sound is more whiney than rattle then it could be a bearring in the tranny
