Unhappy Drive Shaft Seperated

My drive shaft became seperated while I was doing some ball joint work and lower control arm replacement. My friend turned on the car and let go on first but I caught it and hit it out (wasn't enough for the car to fall off the jack stands) and I went to work on it again and saw the boot a bit twisted a little and I can now manually turn the wheel and watch it move. Mostly my fault she never drove standard in her life. Can I reattach the drive shaft the boot didn't seperate or anything, just the shaft inside. Anybody know any DIY or is this a mechanics job.

Depends if it just fell out of the hub or if the universal Joint is busted. if its just fallen out, then just pop the thing back in and off you go. if the Joints busted... well, then you have to get a new Drive shaft.

Is there any bolt that holds the drive shaft to the motor? Or is it just held in on it's own weight by the knuckle and control arm?

No bolts, Its held in place when the rest of the suspeinsion is in the car. Its basically a shaft with slots on it, and it slides in to the tranny and the Knuckle, then held in place by both (when they are bolted down)

Thanks for all your help, it just came out of it's place. But now instead of taking the axle nut off myself I can take the whole thing in and get it all on.

most cv joints are held into the transmission by a expanding clip on the splines of the axle. If the axle isn't engaged all the way in to the transmission you can usually give it a push and it will snap back in to place
