[IMG]i/expressions/face-icon-small-puke.gif[/IMG] I just bought a 2002 Civic Ex and i have been doing some research on how much power you can get out of some of these performance parts. I recently read in a Honda tuning magazine that dc sports header, exaust, and intake only gives 7th generation civics 5 hp. Can someone that has has these upgrades tell me if it is really worth spending 1500 or so to do these upgrades?

Rep Power: 0 DAMMMMM 5 Hp ummm i think whatever your reading is a misprint cause what i have read TCS from dc sports gives 9 hp and that only the exhaust or exhaust and headers im not sure but 5 horses is real bad for intake headers and exhaust i dont think that can be possible even with a k&n drop in filter uyou probabky get more power

Rep Power: 0 an increase in 5 hp is pretty accurate. our civics aren't exactly mod friendly. if u slap an intake on a supra, u get like an extra 20-30 hp whereas for us, it's almost insignificant. the only major way to get hp for our cars is to go with nitrous or forced induction.

Rep Power: 418 The 5 horsies was only for the headers and the exhaust I think. They dyno'de it. I know that the intake itself will give you about 5 horsies. $1500! Damn, I didn't know it was that much for all that. Anyway, spend that money to get your head shaved. Hehe. The cylinder head that is. Increase compression and get a copper head gasket. That will give you a much better horsepower increase than I/H/E. You'll probably still need I/H/E to get the most performance out of the new setup, but just the increased compression will put you at anywhere betwean 160 - 190 horsies. Anyway, that's what I'm planning on doing.

Rep Power: 0 hey GREY.... are you seiorus that shaving my cylinder heads alone on my EX will get me from 127HP to 160-190????? WTF!! i had no idea that that was the case. if it is, screw the I/H/E plan! I'm going all the way with shaving!!!

Rep Power: 0 Its called decking the cylinder heads. And 190 is prolly pushing it. Port, polish and decking them would put you around 172 to the rear wheels. A company here in denver already did it to a 2k1.

Rep Power: 0 there has been a lot of talk about deck/port/polish on these threads lately. it seems to be the best way to go for the money and the longevity of the engine...because thins like nitrous, forced induction and super/turbo charging can have damaging affects in the long run. Grey, when you end doing that let us know the details. thanx

Rep Power: 0 I think when you do the shaving of that it intales more then just shaving the head. I think to get to that number of 160-190 w/out I/H/E you would have to do some major work. Such as Port & Polish the head, deck the block, custom high-flow intake manifold, high volume fuel rail, fuel pressure regualtor, 3 angle valve job, titanium rods and springs, blue print and balence of the engine, maybe knifedging the crank, lighten flywheel, upgraded injectors, and many other things im sure i left out..so as you see $1500 will not get you 160-190hp....sorry i know im a dream crusher[IMG]i/expressions/face-icon-small-frown.gif[/IMG] This is all the things i plan to do once im done with the interior and exterior of my car.

Rep Power: 0 You would be surprised. Decking the stock head just raises the compression in the engine. (hense more power) As far as using new rods, pistons, valves, you dont need to. Although, when you raise the compression in our engines, you do need things like better fuel pump, use of 91 octane or higher, and new injectors.
