Automatic Transmisson, car throw in reverse while moving forward

oh for the brakes, i had to change my front pads at 12,000 miles because of "aggresive" driving. usually they should last to 20,000 miles. the rear drums go on for a loooong time. 30-40,000 should be time for new rears.

In my past life i had an automatic pickup truck. So one day i am driving along at 25 mph and my passenger decides to stretch and yawn, she also pushed my gear selector from D to R and we grounded to an instant halt. Needless to say i was out of my mind but we started it back up and drove off. Never a problem as a result. That had me scared sh!tless cause i didnt want to pay for new tranny.
You are ok this time, if your gears didnt catch my opinion is that you have no damage.

Thanks for all the reply... From now on, I wouldn't touch the gear...
For the brake, I read my Owner Manual, it say the brake have a "AUDIO" warning, and will made noise when it is time to change my pad... I just hope by then it won't damage my roter!

Oh, and D3 doesn't give you any better acceleration, it just keeps the trans from shifting into overdrive so that RPMs stay up and you can begin your acceleration quicker (not accelerate quicker) because the car doesn't need to downshift.
First, if you shift into Reverse while the car is still moving forward, there's a safety that keps the transmission in neutral if you're going faster than a certain speed. Either that, or if you're in a higher gear than D1.
Second, there's much controversy on whether you should manually shift an AT tranny or not. I think it's fine once in a while, such as when you're trying to slow down on a slick secion of road, and you drop to D2 (engine braking) or such. It works really well, but from experience you do NOT want to do it on a regular basis, nor do you want to Neutral drop (look it up if you don't know). Some people would argue that it's fine, but since I did that a lot (and still do somewhat, just out of habit) I now have a horrible shifter problem - It locks up in Park and I have to screw around with it sometimes for 5 minutes when I want to put it in gear. I've been meaning to check it out or take it to a dealer, but I've yet to get around to it. It's only been happening a few weeks now, but the point is dont be stupid (like me) and just let the transmission shift itself. That is after all why it's called an "Automatic" transmission.
Best of luck

2k2civic yeah it is cause your dropping from N to D, but its kinda joke because ive heard of people with cars that have lots of hp/torque actually having the tranny mount break, and the clutch and all that just snaps and the tranny falls out

That is very possible, I just wanted to explain what it really means for the people who are just skimming through this. I know I would hate to have read something that makes me look stupid when I repeat it to someone.

Before i wasnt saying drop from N -> D with the gas on going slow, but when you are in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears; take a look @ the rpms and as the tranny gets back in it revvs down slower than in N. it seems to ease back into gear. much better than shifting back in at idle and forcing the engine from 600 to 3000 rpm in under a second!
having a soni wouldn't be able too,
