OK. Enough $hit. WHat is the TRUTH about Engine Breaking?
On one of the earlier posts, this website http://mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm was suggested and it honestly threw me apart. I am only used to breaking in an engine via easy driving and no hard acceleration for the first 600-1000 miles as suggested by the manufacturers. However, this website completely throws me off with what i've always considered to be bullsh*t, and that website seems to be completely aware of the issues that they are talking about. Therefore, i wanted to know from all of you guys How you broke in YOUR engine and what you honestly think is the best break in method. There seems to be so much discrepancies on this issue and i would like for all of us to come to a solid conclusion on this issue. THanks.

i didnt break in my car in any particular manner. id drive it gently one day, roughly the next, i changed my oil the first time at 3k miles, where as my dealer suggested i do it at 5k miles and 7k miles after that, i just do it at 4k mile intervals. and it seems to be running fine. my mother had an 88 toyota that she treated the same way and its still running today. it just needed a new head gasket at 146k miles. not bad if you ask me.

I can't say I broke in my engine, given I didn't drive as hard as I do now but I didn't baby it at all. The only thing I did was not use the cruise control too much so that the rpm's didn't stay the same for super long periods of time.
im not a pro and have no knowledge of the proper way to break in the engine. When i first got my car I drove it gently up the rpm getting higher and higher but slowly. i did not try to redline it till my second oil change. after the third oil change i did drive the car, to my knowledge the metal, piston, cams, and etc are feeling the presure with the high heat, hard acceleration.... the car is like your body....by working out more and hard, you get better and your body respond better.
to some of you that think hard acceleration is bad: law of physics...by redline the car you are creating more air and gas flow thoughout your car this makes it good because you are burning up fagments of dirty parts(internal)... the pressure of you reving so high that the pressure forces these things out. example imagine something is in your straw, by pressure you need to blow it out.

I have to say that I did break my engine in hard, and racing it within the first 1k miles, not really hard racing because it had nothing in it, but still racing none the less. Double clutching and everything. But I baby my car at the same time. I personally rotate my tires every like 5k miles, hand wash it every other week, once a month I have it completely detailed, and do all maintainance my self other than changing the oil, cause that really sucks to do. So she loves me back. Car runs like a dream and I have great acceleration and reaction times with her. But hey, that could come back to bite me in the *** later on down the road... which I'm actually not far from hoping for. That would just give me a nice excuse to drop a nice little RSX Type R into it. And for all of you going... wait there is no RSX Type R... yes in fact there is but it is almost strictly JDM. That way, I would have a nice little 03 Civic Type-R. But until that day... I will stick with what I got.
bought my 03 ex auto brand new.
on freeway, i drove it 65mph at most (like what the dealer said to)
on street.. 30mph.
i've done this for the first 2000-2500 miles. so as it got higher, i drove a LITTLE faster then what the dealer told me so. oil change was required at 5k miles, but did it at 4k miles with mobil 1. once it hit 4k miles, i started to drive it on the highway and street as if it were already broken into.
mine is automatic and i think it might be different with the manuals.

I so badly hope you are joking
I believe the manual or either the guy at honda told me just drive it gentle for the first 5,000 miles or until that first oil change. Don't drive it hard. My car now has close to 50,000 miles and it runs great and I get excellent gas mileage 400 miles on a full tank.

I didn't really know how to drive stick when I got my car... =[
So I stalled about 120 times in a week.
Then when I was better at it I started racing it.. this was around 500 miles.
Around 1000 miles I needed new tires....
At 3k I changed oil. Have been doing it every 3k ever since.
Now car runs like a beast and has really pretty much zero problems. SRS light has been on since the day I got it tho.

oh, when I say beast I mean it drives good and hard, I think the ecu must've conformed to the will of my foot (heh) because everything is stock yet I can beat other stock vics with ease.
