Breaking in Motor
Breaking in Motor
what do you guys think about starting to floor it after 500 miles on the car..... manual says like most common manuals don't punch until 1000 miles..... the dealer guy told me drive soft first 500 drive hard second 500....and my friends say floor it from day one so the motor adapts like that becuase in the long run u'll have more hp and stuff throughout ur entire rev's whats everyones on opinion on the 500 soft then 500 hard, or watever.
On all Hondas the engine is already broken in to. If you look at any Honda they have already been driven. All Hondas are test driven before they are sent out to the dealership. Don’t ever rev your car pass 3000rpm (5 speed) For auto it is not recommended to go pass 80km, but who can drive on the highway at 80km. Just don’t drive you car like a race car for the first 500km. Reving your engine to gain hp tq on the long run is BS…

My local speed shop does this and I thought he was crazy until I found out that is how a lot of the shops do it.

From the first day I have constantly abused my little 4 banger, but it runs great, no problems encountered in the past 3 years. I want to rid myself of that pesky rev lmiter now.
hah ya I wanna turbo my car, but how many miles u guyz think i should get on the motor before turboing it? i've heard peopel say like wait till you hit 15,000 miles before you turbo the car....but that was for my friends 350z he was gonna twin turbo heh what you think for our cars? is it the same wait or no i can slap on a turbo whenever?
what turbo kit are u getting if you don't mind me asking? and approx how much did it cost...im looking to get one just worried about reliability..safe boost would be about 6 pounds? stock internals? 5 maybe?
My friend just bought a 350Z with the ghey auto tranny w/manual option or whatever you call it, and he started flooring it and redlining that poor car since it had 8 miles on the odometer. Raced at least 50 times in 3 weeks.

I have to go with the webpage sited above. I took my first 500 miles real easy, the next 500 I progressively got more agressive with the motor...
The reason I'll never do that agian is because every time I change my oil now it's real dark, so the rings are prolly not sealed up correctly and I'm getting the blow by into the oil.
On anouther note, I change my oil at 1500 miles just to make sure there wasn't any problems, then agian at 3000 miles. After that I'm just going every 3,000.

Anyone else get the darker oil out? My other hondas have all done this, but most have had over 100K so just figured the rings where worn. It worries me because my Ram goes 5K between oil changes and the oil comes out the same color it went in. I change the civic every 3K and get much darker oil out.
yeah my oil was really clear the first 5000-7500 miles, and even when i switched to royal purple, you could see the purple tint after an oil change...but now my oil is always very dark...even the day after an oil change!
hrm bout the 350z...my friend got a white base model stick...its pretty mean and quick....
bout the braking in stuff I pretty much redlined maybe a few times before 500....after 500 i've pretty much pushed my car hard after every 100 miles for example....500 punched it den didn't punch it again till 600 and at 700 punched it and well this last 800 i've been punching it from 800 to right now 860 miles lol i unno hopefully it didn't screw anything up but u guyz think that was okay? i can't help flooring it.. just I think my shoes are made of lead :-( lolZ :-p
