Radar Detecting Monkey!

Well guys, I am a about to start a project. My girl friend bought me a stuffed monkey that screams, it has a voicebox inside. She bought it to match my civic and hang it form the rear view mirror. Well I was thinking the other day. Cops pull you over, and they see ur radar detector there more then likely going to give you a ticket right? Right, maybe not in all cases but you get the idea. So why not make ur monkey detect radar?

This is what KIND of monkey I am talking about, mine is all black and skinnier and the eyes are the same size of small leds. But this is the basic idea of one.

http://www.jacksonsbirds.com/images/mnky_quon.jpg

It hangs from your rear view mirror. Well I have the idea of ripping apart a cobra 10 band voice alert radar detector and installing it into the moneky. I want to remove the eyes and replace one eye with a Red led, and one eye with the Radar receiever *that peice that sides on the top right of the radar detector that receieves radar signals coming from behind you* and wire the Infra red looking device in the the back of the monkeys head. And use the voice box from the radar detector and the monkey. I would still use the cigarette lighter *I don't trust making it battery operatred* If the officer asks something about it, u ca squeeze the monkey and have it scream, and maybe its one eye will light up. Now I understand this may seem suspicious but the average person may just ignore it or over look it. The officer would never see the radar reciever in the back of its head cus its facing the front of the car, and at his angle he would not see it.

Back to its further use. When it detects a band *X, K, etc. etc.* have the one eye blink or light up, and then the voice alert would come on notifying you what it is, and continue to beep. I am going to look up the schmetics of the radar detectors If I can find one. If anyone has an idea where I could let me know. If I am going to start this small sized project I will let you all know and if it works. I will also make a DIY, like I said if I start this project.

This may make me look like a monkey, but I think it would be a kick *** idea. Who else wants a radar detecting monkey? lol

Well...

Thanks for the compliments on the idea. Its not that I live somewhere its outlawed. I live in kansas, its that Cops hate radar detectors, and you use them so you don't get caught. We all know eventually you can get caught, if a cop does see you have one, its not if its legal that matters, its the fact you use it so you can avoid them. Radar detectors intefer with their job, if they can't catch you speeding then thats less money the state/county is receiving from you. Now cops still can/might give u a ticket for speeding even if they don't see one, but it lessens the chance. Also if you take a ticket to court to fight it, and the officer states you had a rdar detector the judge will not look highly upon that, trust me...

No I don't have alot of times on my hands, BUT I am a pizza delivery boy as it were, and I come in contact with cops on the road more then anyone. They usually leave us alone but if I get a ticket on the job I can and might lose my job. Yes I could stop speeding, yes I could stop driving like a dumbass. But I am not going to, thats me and thats how I have fun while driving. So this would be very beneficial to me, I already have several pizza delivery drivers who have heard about my idea, willing to pay me for it.

Unfortunately its only an "idea" I still have to research more, I would rather not tear apart a $100 device just for me to **** up half way thru to realize its to hard/impossible. Keep the input coming, like i said if anyone knows where I can get a schematic for a radar detector let me know, or if this has been done before.

I don't have anytime till this weekend or next week to further look into this, I just wanted to see how it sounded to everyone.

Hmmm..

I guess I would have to double think about giving it out to other drivers...

Ted the Cop: Hey Frank have you noticed how all the Papa Johns delivery drivers have monkeys on the rear view mirror?

Frank: Yeah and I have never caught them speeding for a while now...

Yeah that would be great...

OR I could sell the idea to the drivers of dominos or Pizza Hut, and keep it fro myself at my job. That way to keep suspicion off me lol.

OR sell it to everyone then quit my job!

Good idea, but a lot of cops use things hangging from your rear view mirror a good excuse to pull you over.

Technically in CA it is not legal to have anything hang from the rierview mirror that obstructs the drivers view.

But, You don't have to have a rear view mirror if you have side mirrors and the back windows are not tinted.

heheh... thats freakin cool... but you should make both of the eyes red LEDs to make it less obvious... just splice the wire and attach another LED onto it

Well i thought about running the "sensors" as it were to the front and back but then you would run into the problem that the radar would not detect as efficiently as far as angles go. Then you run into the whole pain in the *** of wiring that. The monkey idea would require minimal rewiring, maybe if I were to do it I would be able to learn more, and be able to do such a feat, but at the moment I lack the knowledge.

I have a good idea...instead of spending all of your time with this monkey, why don't you just look over your shoulder a bit more often, or maybe go the speed limit...save the speed for the track...not the street...

I do look over my shoulder quite a bit, I am a very aware driver I believe. Besides it something I can do with my spare time, its cool and i would have the satisfaction of a devilish looking monkey. Unlike some people I cant spend gobs of money on rims and other awesome mods because I have to pay ALL my bills. So please don't try to talk down to me, k thx.

Cool idea man. I dont know if using that monkey would be a good choice though cause it's pretty big. Keep us updated if you do it though.

Thanks, well what would u suggest I use instead, theres very view "passable" objects I could use, or that the radar detector would fit in with ease.
