Custom Intake Idea...
From what I've read I don't think this topic has been covered so...I will just add what I did to my intake system. Purchased a cheap cheesy intake from Ebay just so I could get the aluminum tubing. Removed the resonator from the intake system and using my trusty hacksaw, I made custom intake pipe which is just connected to the intake box on the throttle body. It's open ended with no filter element. Ran it to a cooler section (basically where the original resonator was). Then I dropped a K&N panel filter into my box. Seems to work fine.
Anyone else tried this or see any problems with my setup?

Well... of course it'll work but your filter will get dirty quicker. If you're running air from where the resonator was then why not just leave it stock? Becuase it will perform better than what you have now and saves gas.

It sounds like it would work fine but why not just put a cone filter on the end and remove the filter in the box? Then it will at least look like an intake instead of just a pipe. It would also be better if you would actually run the pipe to behind the bumper like the Injen CAI.
I'm weary of the cai because I don't want to ingest any water. There's not a lot of protection from splashing water and mud in the 7th gen civic wheel well. I figure the aluminum tubing has a straighter angle and a diameter of 2.5 and should move air better than the stock resonator. The opening of the resonator isn't very big and the air is pulled through a few curves within the resonator itself. Seems more restrictive to me?
How would my setup get more dirty than a CAI? On a CAI the open filter element is near the bottom front of the car where all the dust, dirt, and mud is. At least my K&N panel is still in the original box with the tubing that reaches just at the lower part of the battery.

If you have your piping running into your Resonator from the throtle body and still using the stock filter there is no difference really, what you should do with that is to get a cone filter and remove the resonator. You "will not" get water in the engine at all, its just a SRI, not a CAI.

I did remove the entire megapolis resonator unit. I have the tubing connected to the air filter housing. Im not an expert, but in my opinion I'm pulling in more cooler air. I've dropped a K&N in the filter box. My tubing is bigger and pulling cooler air from just below the battery.
Some have told me I will get a dirtier filter quicker this way. I don't understand this since the CAI is down closer to the pavement's dirt, mud, and splashing water.
