Convertible CAI

Since I and probably about half the people on this site live in areas that actually recieve significant weather during times of the year, I was thinking the other day that there has to be a way to take a CAI and turn it into a short ram during our wet months so we have less of a worry about the infamous water.

So for example, I have an AEM CAI. Lets say I remove the bottom portion. Then I find a filter that will fit nicely over the end of the upper portion of the CAI, wether it be a cone filter, or one of those mushroom head filters. In theory wouldn't this be the same and cheaper than buying an additional short ram to run during the wet months?

Just a thought I had the other night, I was wondering what everyone else thought.

I actaully just remove the resonator during the winter months. You still get that nice engine sound, and its easier than trying to mess around with your CAI.

Um yeah... sounds like you really have an idea of whats going on here.

Anyways, you can convert the CAI to an short ram by pulling the bottom pipe off and attaching the AEM filter to the upper pipe.

what about the diameter difference between the upper and lower pipes, i believe the lower has a larger diameter, so wouldn't you need to get a filter with a smaller diameter?

you just have to put the clamp as high on the rubber part as you can and tighten it up, if you do it in the middle of the rubber it will leave a gap, but it you do it right at the top it will seal nicely

Get a short length of PVC (3" long) the same diameter of the lower pipe, clamp that into the connector then put the filter over that.

I would not use PVC, use steel exhaust piping. my intake was made by my friend out of exhaust piping.

I hope it works cause thats what I was planning on doing when it starts raining here. The funny thing is that I would be fine with it normal except for the gutter at the end of my street that always floods.
