Short Ram Intake Question

Hey guys, i can proudly say that today i did my 1st engine mod on my car. i put on a AEM SRI. I had a couple of questions though

1.is the filter a K&N filter and would it matter if i put on on instead of the AEM one?
2. Should the filter be aimed down or up or does it matter?

I',not sure how many more mods i'm gonna do, i know i want a better exhaust system and some 17" rims and new toyo tires, but i think that might be it.

thanks for the imput

Yeah i got to play around with it 2nite, i can tell a difference. i always put 89 octane in my civic but i do feel a kick and it seems to go faster at a lesser rpm level. i love the sound it makes, also i have alot more room under the hood that i cleared all the plastic crap out. i would reccomend everyone get this product.

the filter from AEM is of good quality.. multi-layered cotton filter that's washable just like K&N's...

no need to buy another, just use the AEM's

what do u mean by filter aim down or up? if u fit it in the tubing, you shouldn't be able to adjust it much.. or at all

although most I've seen are pointed downwards.. so..

Last time I checked the filter provided by AEM is a K&N. I could be wrong, but im pretty sure.

The SRI will probably decrease your gas mileage... more air requires more gas. Your mileage will also be f-ed up till the ECU can adjust to the sri.

All you have to do is reset ECU. Just go open the hood. Take out ECU fuse and put it back on after about 20 seconds. I have injen sri on my si. Definetly decresed gas milege over stock air box. I am thinking about getting comptech icebox instead.

i don't know about you guys, but with my aem sri i got nearly 400 miles on a full tank on a long trip and the best i've ever gotten on a long trip stock was about 350. also i try not to drive hard so i can conserve gas, i have an auto and when i accelerate i don't let it go above 3500 rpms i let off and gas some more as they get back down. only time i don't do that is if i'm gettin stupid and wanna hear the sri suck some wind

super now you can have a little fun and call up dh racing and get a nice new metal intake manifold coupled with there larger throttle body then new fuel rail, injectors and then you will be hooked on doing your own mods any part on the intake side of your engine is reasonably easy to diy.

SRI was also my first mod....well...so far it's my only mod. i was lucky cause at the time, my co-worker was a mechanic and instead of putting in the intake, he just stood there and taught me how to do it. then another friend of mine came by and said i needed to use a better fastener for the hoses and went to the hardware store and bought a couple for me. my co-worker even showed me how to adjust the throttle cable....then i saw all this stuff in the DIY section here. was a great learning experience. then i removed the intake to see the difference in milage. i lost about 15-20 miles with the intake. it went from about 30+/- MPG to 27+/- MPG. i'd like to replace the exhaust but i really don't want one of those 4"-5" softball shooters. something like the stock RSX one is what i'm looking for. if i could DIY everything on my car, i would. i just don't have the equipment to do it.

That's cool. I used to have the same intake, but it robbed too much low-end power. That and being noisy all the time when going up hills was too much for me. I lost 2mpg when I went back to stock, though.
