securing car for the holidays
For all those people who are leaving their cars and flying home for the holidays, there are some things you may want to do to protect your car from theft.
1) Set the alarm and make sure it works.
2) Remove entire stereo if aftermarket--better yet, take out the entire center console.
3) If you have system, tie down the trunk from the inside and disconnect trunk opener.
4) Get one of those locks for the brake pedal.
5) Try and remove other parts of your car like shifter, gauge cluster, etc. It will look like you're working on it and they won't mess with trying to steal it.
Feel free to add ideas to this list

Save someone the trouble, just put the car up on blocks.
-On a more serious note, do make sure you have wheel locks
-Park it somewhere where it will be well lit up at night and there is likelihood of cop drive-bys, or slip a campus cop some Dunkin Donuts gift cards to drive by twice a shift.
- Find other people in the same situation, work out a deal to all park together over break, but leave a spot between your cars so it can be seen if someone is messing with it
-Take it to the dealer for some work, then ask them if they can just lock it on the lot until you get back (some dealers in college towns may accomodate this).
-See if the university offers an over break parking location.
-If your team is going to a football bowl, find out if the team, the band or the cheerleaders are leaving cars somewhere, then park it there.

also, keep a full tank of gas.... so your gas doesn't oxidise (sp? i am tired), you don't want to this occur. avoid this by keeping your tank at full, more the gas, the longer and harder it takes to oxidise.
and maybe keep a few extra psi in your tires.
that's all of what i did over the summer when i was in france for a few weeks. that and cover her up. then again, i park in heated survailenced parking lot.
