why is my car bad on gas?
hey, i have a 2003 civic lx 5spd. 1 year old. i have an intake, took out the power-steering, and a whole lot of suspension mods.....but, why is my gas mileage really bad!!!!!!i tried all different styles of driving and shift points, but it's still drinks like a V6. my friends twin cam integra 5spd saves more gas????? i thought civic's are suppose to be really good on gas????

when was the last time you cleaned the filter on your intake?
and have you reset the ecu after installing the intake or removing the power steering?

bad means that it gobbles more gas than a 1.8 twin cam integra, 2.2 twin cam prelude. i had a mazda mx6 V6 before this car, and i think the gas mileage is the same....i'm just expected a lot better gas mileage from an econo-car.
how do you reset the ecu????
how do you reset the ecu????
check the sparkplugs air filter, tire pressure and even try using a differnt brand of gas shell and citgo have very good gas in my opinion but maybe thats just me but check those three things
I have an 03' EX with 14k miles and my mileage has slowly gone down from 30mpg to 25mpg. Is this bad gas mileage to you? In my case it's probably the air filter and possibly plugs, I'll eventually check and reset my ECU when I get some free time.
You can reset your ecu by taking the positive off the battery and leaving it off for 10-15 minutes. Then put the positive back on and start your car. What gas milage are you getting? You never said. I get 38-39 in my 2001 ex coupe.

How are you measuring gas milage? by compairing Miles to gallons consumed, or by how often you have to fill up the tank?
I ask this because there is a big difference between the two. Miles/gallons is the right way to do it. How often you have to fill up is determined by how large your gas tank is (ours is 12 or 13 gallons).
Need info........

I drive with the pedal glued to the floor and never get less than 30 mpg. This is with i/e mods and 16s. If you're getting less than that you have a mechanical/ECU problem.
When you reset your ECU, let it idle for 10 minutes or so before driving it. I understand that gives the system time to figure out what it's doing.

Do you have larger wheels, 17s or 18s? I think when i put my 17s on (33pds w/tire compared to 30pd stocks) i lost some gas mileage, but i also my need to clean my filter. But yes, reset your ECU, i might try this too....will doing it cause the CEL to come on? Or any other crazy ish?

Yeah... I was going to say that you really need to post what your mpg rate is, before anyone can tell you anything. I think I am getting between 28-30mpg w 50/50 street/highway driving.
i get about 350 miles for 9/10 gallons, i reset my trip a thing everytime i fill up. but i have an 01, and there was a recall on sumthin with the gas tank, but my light goes off hella early so i dont even bother looking at it

it might be the intake, i changed from stock to injen CAI (and reset the ecu) and it still killed my MPG, used to get 330 miles on a full tank, now 275 more or less...

there are so many things to look at when talking about gas milleage. Like, driving conditions (traffic), driving style.... although gas milleage has also gone down somewhat on my car (average of 36 to 32/33) these 2 months, I find it it's b/c I either have the need to pass and mash the pedal or downshift to a lower gear. But I tried driving like I used to and it went back up to 35.... so....

i have a 2004 ex civic coupe auto, it has about 1200miles on it. I get around 24mpg when i rev high and accel fast and about 29mpg when i drive around 3000rpm or below. I get about 33mpg on the freeway. I think thats pretty good mileage, i dont mind paying $10-15 for gas when i use to pay $20-30 for gas with my old car.
