Question Heat Shield Removal???

If I have the stock header on my car and I leave off that heat shield, will anything be melted or damaged??? I know that when there is an aftermarket on on there it dosent bother anything, but maybe the stock one is different somehow...
I know it wont do anything to leave it off, but I am lazy and I dont feel like putting it back on.

Thanks!

It will heat up your intake charge, and cool off your exhaust exit...making less power...
But you wouldn't notice it anyway...so just leave it off.

actually i read up on the heat shield and its been stated that "removal of the heat hinders performance."

then how come there isnt an aftermarket heatshield for our aftermarket headers????

and what about the intake question???
I figure it will kinda make it sound like it still has some intake on if I leave it off, but I dont want anything to get messed up!

sorry, had to say that..

just keep the shield on there man..
its there for a reason, so until you go t aftermarket, just keep it there..
its not like your gonna gain anything..

all you'll do is show off that nice rusty *** header..

yea put on the stock intake tube, better to suck up natural air then to run an open box and take the risk of sucking up something bad.

don't worry about it. there are people on here who take off the resonator and suck up even hotter air.

just leave the tube on. are u that lazy? I dont get it.

and have the heatshield back in too. all you gotta do is take off the top bolts. and have that fit in...

the intake tube allows the entire system to draw air at a different, cooler location.. granted its not that much different.. but yeah it also prevents drawing in large amount of dirt, water, etc.

as for the heatshield, leave it on. its there for a reason. its there to heat up the manifold so ehxuast will exit better. you'll find heatshield through out the entire exhaust system, to keep the pipes from melting other things and keep heat in so the flow will be better.

aftermarket header doesnt come with them cuz they're usually coated with something already.. ie: ceramic coated.. and most of the time aftermarkets header crack easier with extra stress from extra heat.

if you compare the weld on the stock header to some aftermarket header, u'll find that the stock's much more durable and better weld.. it'll last a lot longer than most aftermarket header.

just leave everything the way it is. they didn't put it there just for fun and kicks. heh. its silly to be lazy to not put those things in. or for whatever other reasons.

Hot air in the intake = bad
Hot air in the header and exhaust = good

Just put it back on.

i ran without an intake resonator before, sounds nice but lost power performance wise because of sucking in hot air...

as for the head shield, i drove with it off before (because the black paint was still drying and i had to go somewhere)... my cf hood was way hotter than usual and i was afraid it was gonna melt or something... so engine bay temp definitely raises up a few degrees with the heat shield off...

yeah I took everything off leaving only the box that connects to my intake manafold but still had the filter in it. I thought having a louder sound when flooring it will sound cool. I did that for awhile then bought an AEM CAI now that was money well spent.

it's not a simple hinder in performance

the extra heat could also create knock in your engine, causing your engine to retard more and more, that will make you lose mpg

and capyoda pretty much took all the words i had

yeah put it back on or buy some Aftermarket headers, I remember once I was running my car very hard and when I stopped to eat at denny's I pop open the hood and I can see my headers glowing bright orange it was pretty cool, maybe thats why they have a heatshield there

I do have a aftermarket header, but I am putting stuff back to stock for now. I have all back on there except for the little tube for the intake... I havent noticed much different power, except now the intake and header are off.... but with that tube not there it seems to be fine
