Does modifying the engine affect the longevity of the car?
I was thinking of tweaking with the engine a little and was wondering
if this would affect the longevity of the car.
Here are some things I was thinking of doing to my 2002 EX Coupe:
1) DC SPORTS 4-1 1PC HEADER

2) AEM CIA

3) HKS CARBON-TI MUFFLER

Bolt ons won't do anything to the life. Modifying the internals and not doing it properly will **** the engine up pretty good though.
i actually was wondering the same question myself.. but more about turbo/superchargers... i would assume it would **** your car up over time.. if you didnt build up internals at the same time.. .. btw.. what is a safe psi if you DONT build up internals? 6 psi?
(not that im going to do this.. just wondering what you can get away with)

shouldnt hurt your car some of the aftermarket stuff may actually help your car a bit, less restrictive stuff generally just produced more noise and power and makes it easier for the car to breath so i got my money on it will help more then hurt the longevity of your car. the reason performance parts arent allready on there is money and noise. The bulk of the public wants a quiet cheap car, go for the addons cant hurt
Oh and invidious ive heard of people boosting 8 to 10 on a basically stock vic without any problems at all but you might want to make a post or search old posts to see if someone has fielded this question a little more in depth then i can go into
any type of forced induction will reak havoc on your car in the long run, unless you pay some pretty prices for internal work. Still problem arise when unexpected. Our cars were built as economical, not performance oriented. Bolt on's will not harm the car's engine as long as their done right.

So basically your saying that if I do bolt ons (Intake, Headers, Exhaust)
that I need to do internal work as well? Or will I be fine with the bolt ons without having any internal work done?

no internal work is needed with boltons and the bolt ons will not affect the longevity of the motor to the point were you would actually notice it. you could still probably get 200,000 miles maybe more on the d17 motor even with bolt ons. and if you want the best performance out of the dc sports header, i would go with the dc sports tcs exhaust. they have been dynoed together to produce a gain, but individually, they dont do much.
