Blown bulbs *weird*

Tonight I went to the track with a bunch of people and on the way down there we all had our lights on. Seeing the reflection off of the car in front of me I know that both of my headlights were on during the trip there. I didn't race tonight so my car was just parked, no hard jolts to the car at all or anything. When I went to leave I turned on my headlights, they stayed on for about 2 sec and then both went out. I thought it was a fuse or something. I started checking around and no fuses were blown. I then pulled the bulbs out and both of the high beams were fine, and working, but both of the low beams had blown at the exact same time. I'm wondering if someone else has had this happen to them. They were PIAA Xtreme white bulbs and since they came with the headlights I bought (used) I don't know how old they were. I would understand one blowing at a time, but both struck me as kinda weird. Luckily I had a spare set of bulbs in the car to replace them with so as to avoid any popo trouble. Although a Sherriff I talked to before getting on the road told me that given the situation most police wouldn't ticket me for failure to dim due to the weird situation. Has anybody else had this happen to them or have heard of it happening?

aww that sucks dude, time for real HID's now hehe. I had PIAA's before and both of them were working fine and were both brand new but then a few minutes later i noticed that it wasn't as bright as before so when i pulled over to the side i saw that one side blew out. I was pretty bummed out. But yeah time for some HID's.

heres what you do, you take the negative lead to your headlights, and you you connect it to the negative terminal of the battery..

POOF, no more burnt out high wattage bulbs!

well, I read on the PIAA site a while back about power surges, and they said their bulbs can blow alot if they have power spikes all the time, and the best way to fix that is to take the negative part of the headlight harness on each side, and run the wires directly to the battery, I used to blow silver stars all the time, but this fixed the problem instantly.

Which wire is the negative, and would it be the same to just run a tap splice with a wire going to the (-) terminal? Or would I actually have to cut the wire and rewire it to the battery?

I forget what it looks like , its been quite a few months, but you can just tap a wire to the battery, it should be a darker wire, or something with a black stripe on it, look at the real carefully. if it were light outside I would go look for you.

I hope this helps, Ill check it out in the morning and post the color wire thats the negative

awesome. This is something that I will definetly do. I have noticed changes in brightness whenever an electrical circuit starts drawing power, (i.e. a/c, power windows, cooling fan). Anything that will help will be much appreciated. I'll check the wiring charts I have at home and figure it out, but if you get a chance to post the wire color it would be much appreciated.

if youre gonna do that you can just take some extra wire to each ground lead on the headlight harness and just drill it anywhere on the engine bay, or just ground it at a factory grounding point, its just as effective.
