I need to replace the drivers front axle on my 01 civic ex coupe and was wondering if anyone has replaced any axles yet. More importantly is there anything unusual or any tricks to replacing it. If it's the same as the previous gens then it's all good, just wondering if honda messed with anything with the 7th gen. Thanks
mines were starting to click from all the street racing... so i replaced mines, there is a bolt that connects the axel to the brake disk, that is a bitch to removed, you need like a 22mm socket to remove it, i forgot what size, just call honda to ask em or take it to an auto shop to size it up the bolt, then you need a straight bar to remove it, or a large rachet, i broke a half inch rachet bar and bent a 3 corter inch rachet trying to remove mines, so they are on pretty tight, it took one person standing on the rachet bar and one pulling on it just to remove the bolts, after you remove the bolts stick a standart screw drive between the axel and the tranny case to separate them, after you put the new ones back tap them in at the end of the axel with a hammer, a few light taps and you will here em pop back in place, they cost me like 180 all together for the axles, when you remove them be sure you are not in the way because transmission fluid will spill out the axel holes, but not that much to worry about, it took only like 30mins to change out, if you have any other questions pm me or hit me up on yahoo SODJAZERO

So basicly the same as any other honda...I've pulled the axle from the hub before to replace a lug bolt, but i didn't pull it from the tranny...that was my question... DAMN! where did you get "them" for 180!? around here (RI) they are 300.00 each. (247) was a deal i got from majestic. Thanks for the info!

Acidbaby, yes that is what happens...it clicks around corners and during accell and decelleration. If you tap the gas and get out tap and get out it will go click...click click...click click...click It will click when the front end lifts and when it noses over...And MORE around corners, especially if your stopped and just turning your wheel...I hate it..
Good luck

Elite, im not sure what a smooth clicking is, and if it happens during braking, during a certain mph i doubt it is the axle...it would be doing what i described above (IF its the CV joint that is...) You might have a brake problem.
I got a clicking during braking after i did my suspension, it turned out to be the shield plate behind the rotor was bent a little toward the rotor and would click almost exactly as you described it...Something to check out if its comming from only one side of the car and you just did brakes or well could be from your accident...
Not much else i could tell ya..i dont really understand smooth clicking.
good luck!
