hello.
i have a 02 LX. does any one know what would happen if i swapped a CPU form a EX into my car?
has anyone done this?
is it even possable?
i would think it would swap right in, and things that weren't there, just wouldn't get pluged in; like moon roof, V-TEC, map lights, etc.
i don't know though....... i thought of this last night when i was talking with my friend on how i could get rid of that stupid govenor. he segisted that i switch over to OBD-1, but he said the harnesses are expensive. i thought a computer would be cheaper.......

ECU swapping, hmm wondering if 01' swapped for an 02' would be the same for an ex coupe? Wondering this cause if you get the JET chip they midofy your ecu and all, if you ever sell the car, to take it out could another ECU be put in from another car/ different year??

i was told that the EX was not limmited, that they just run out of torque at about 130.....
i hit the limmit at like 115.
but i also want one because the fuel is mapped differently.
does a "jet" computer set the speed limmeter higher? like 170 or somthing not realy atainable?
the EX chip goes to 125mph limited. The JET ECU is available for the EX model and give a few more hp and will allow you to go over 125mph. It also gives a better launch /feeling but has to use 91 or better octane.

on a lx ur missing two things that i know of, vtec, and the EGR valve, if u put in a EX ecu and essentially u wont have either of those things hook up and the ECU will be looking for them. CEL.......i have a 2002 EX in my 2001 LX car with a 2001 LX ECU running the 2002 EX engine. so i took the EGR valve off bc what is the use of that in a turbo application. and the vtec is running through my emanage.

The EX ecu won't do anything to your LX car unless you get all the parts you need to convert it to an EX, the head, and some other things. YOu will basically have an LX still.

i don't need to go over 100 every day, just when need be. sometimes you need to do 130.
also i'm putting a new flywheel on, and i want to know what my top speed is.
why would a EX have EGR, but not a LX?
if i don't have v-tec, the computer doesn't know that.
what does EGR have to do with anything?

honestly you NEVEEEEEEER have to go that fast
ur car may not have vtec right now, but the EX ECU will be looking for it
the EGR valve recirculates exhaust gases back into the engine to reburn them again, creating our ULEV type cars. the ex ecu has a pin for that if its not hooked up CEL, go out side and unplug ur o2 sensor the CEL light will come on.
the 115 cut off, isnt that big of a deal for me, only when i am on the high way driving and racing or something.

waste of time and money i have a 2k2 lx 4dr and i cut off at 120 and 7.200rpm's u want go faster than that go down a hill... no point in doing this man u wont see a big diffrence. rember the ex isnt all its cracked up to be. the vtec is gay! only time u really notice vtec is on a dohc. but its ur money and ur time. i dont care about going over 120 all i care about is going over 7.200rpm's that cut off is gay. if u want more power out of ur ecu then go get a new ems like the AEM one or **** if ur a baller go with motec now that will be money well spent!

there is no way you can be in 4800 going 115. The shut off is at around 120.
But to reiterate my point. You car will function EXACTLY the same with the EX ECU. There will be no difference except the computer will be looking for VTEC and may not get it. It is a pointless mod. And you have NO reason to go 100 that often. I really hope the cops catch you before you hurt someone.

who are you to try to hex me!!! (i guess you're the moderator, huh?)
i never said i did 100 in traffic. i only hid those speeds when i'm in the desert, or maybe on a back road. i'm not dumb.....

I have a lot of gadgets on my 5 speed EX, 2002. I said this before... the REV limiter on the EX kicks in at exactly 7020 rpms, according to the peak hold capability of my HKS box. EX's do not have a speed limiter, simply a REV limiter, in theory, with enough horsepower you can go 142.5mph followed by fuel cut.
Unless you have a turbo and an insane setup where you need higher speed limit for the track (drag or course), you don't need anything more than 115. For the amount of time it takes a non-VTEC Civic to get to 115, you are greatly endangering yourself and all others around you.
About the VTEC comment, I have the Jet reprogrammed ECU. You can tell when VTEC engages. The switch occurs between 45-4600rpms. Let's say I floor it from first for example, on a 5-10mph role. As soon as I get to 4600, if there is any sand, moisture, or occasional slick pavement, my tires break free and I hit the limiter. It does make a large difference in second, third, and a little in fourth. 5th gear is not noticeable (not enough HP).
I sent my ECU back to Jet to be programmed back to stock. My turbo kit should be at my house (upgraded SF kit) in about two weeks.
For the money spent, the Jet ECU was my favorite mod. Despite what some people say. I ran a 16.5 at 84mph with a 300lb system in my trunk, ebay intake, mozart rear section, and 17" wheels. Tell me that the Jet had nothing to do with that...
How can you spank EX's all day? Off the line it's a good race, but gearing, fuel maps, and yes VTEC will own you on the highway. I can hang with WRXs at speeds (not beat, but never lose them).
OK I'm done, anything else ask, I have videos and pics of things to back myself up. lol (enough venting for one night)

i was at 131 with just a little to spare on my rev limit...
big *** straightaway in near the las vegas motor speedway
big *** straightaway in near the las vegas motor speedway
the most importent thing to keep in mind is if you want to change the ecu or do a vtec head swap you are going to have to leave the lx ecu in untill you get to a honda delar ship then take your glove box out and hook up the ex ecu and the get them to program the key with taht ecu cause it wont start other wise i got them to do it for me for free but they may not you so just remember you have to do that

no speed limiter here. But then again I guess no one expected an 01 lx sedan to ever see 132mph. Backed off there because it started scaring the **** out of me. Only limiter I have is the 7200rpm one, unless there IS one at 140, but I'll probably never see that.
Just a friendly reminder, speeding in excess of 100mph is a felony, meaning Bubba is your new best friend and he's going to make you his bitch.

16.5 thats not bad, best i had was 15.9 @ 92mph with injen SRI, full magana flow exgaust, short shifter on 16's. and every ex i have ran i have spanked ofcorse there's allways going to be some one faster than u. and i can hang with the best of them on the highway including wrx's. and i dont only drag i have my iish set up so i can hit the canyons or a road corse/auto x. so incloseing no i cant probly beat EVERY ex out there but EVERY ex (about 8) i have raced i have won.
on a side note im not just some kid that just started raceing ive been doing it for 7 year's now (im 25 now) this is my 8th car that i mod up and i got my civic so i would stop raceing (but who can stop
). ive had cars that have been in the 13's all motor. and rember alot of it has to do with the driver. i mean u can have a 400hp car but if u dont know how to drive ur not going to get anywhere.

wow
dj,
you ran a 15.9 in your lx? thats impressive, im not saying that a 15.9 is amazingly quick, but for a civic ls, thats quick...what the hell did you do to it? I have an ex, with a greddy evo, aem cold air, sitting on si wheels, and a nice suspension, but i know damn well that im still in the 16's for sure...and for those of you who want to go over 115 mph, don't come to n.y. with that crap, cuz thats were i live...
