how do i change my shift **** ?

Hi guys....i just brought a 96 civic si a month ago....and i have been trying to change my shift **** but the problem is that i can't get the old one out! so can anyone help me?
um...the guy who sold me the car change it to a short shifter....but i dunno how i can change the ****....also...does anyone have any idea how much is it to change to a new short shifter?

If it's like mine then you just grab the ring holding the boot on and pull it down while twisting. After that's loose you can just unscrew the ****.

in the u.s. we have the 'ex' model. In canada, they don't call that model the 'ex' ... they call it the 'si'.
