transmission guru's

when i shift my car hard (01 EX 5-speed) it barks the tires (normal) then it feels like some slammed on the brakes for a split second then let off and then the engine kinda bogs down. someone i know suggested it might be my Differential. i have an Exedy racing clutch that is supposed have 65% more clamping force and holding power than stock. i have had it for about 25k miles. the car currently has about 65k on it. i do alot of track and street racing so it takes a beating. also my trans grinds into 3rd on every shift hard or not and the car pops out of second when im going around parking lots and such at low speed. i dont think the 2 problems are related because the second has been going on for a while now whereas the first just started a week ago. any help would be great, if this is a repost or whatnot please give me info on what it is and how it can be fixed. also does anyone know anything about the phantom grip LSD?
thanks
nate

i know that the shifter popping out of second is a manufacturer defect and you can take it to honda for them to fix it.

yup, its basically kinda like a recall. a tsb bulletin was filed for that problem. while you take it in, ask 'em about your other tranny problem and see if you can get them to fix it

So some TSB's can be fixed even after the warranty is done? Is it just up to the dealer?

The phantom LSD's good for low- powered vehicles. I wouldn't try to put it on your car, if it's going to make over 200 hp at the crank. My shop's gave it a thumbs up for my car, but they do get complaints of cars w/ high outputs that over- whelm the phantom LSD.

old beater, i think i got some bad news for you. when i bought my car as the second owner, every time i shifted to third with speed there was a grind similar to what you described. I took it in as it was still under warranty and it needed a whole new transmission. cost around $750, they told me there was actually pieces of the tranny broken off and just laying there. good luck

to better desribe the third gear problem, it is the third gear syncro grinding. the reason that it is doing that is because you bent the third gear shift fork ever so slightly, like a mm or so. had the same problem. guess i yaked third just to fast one day. since i work for honda i went over to our service center and had the trans specialist drive my car and that is what he said was wrong with it. i got lucky and found a trans at a junk yard with only 2k on it and just slapped it in and off i went. i suggest that option if you can't get the recall thing to work in your favor. good luck

if it grinds take it in, they wil fix it for free, they fixed mine, and if they argue tell them that you talked to someone with investor relations and they said that the dealership would fix it for free.
