its also there to protect stuff on the inside from any rocks that your wheels may kick up.
take a look at what will be exposed once you take it off and judge the risk for yourself.

YEs i had mine removed for a day and **** got all in there....it rained and i got gravel all in there the crank pulley was full of gravel and dirt....dont do it...unless you are trying to get rid of a tiny bit of weight for like the track or something...
Yeah, I had my bumper off for probably an hour while it was at a paint shop and I drove to the store and back. I looked at my front and noticed that my fender wells were partially gone seeing that they were rubbing against the tires with the wind pushing it. I was pissed.
i took out the front fender piece off my mom's 97 accord to fixed a dent and i guess it didnt put it back right and it fell off on the freeway. It's been over two years and it's fine except it get kinda dirty. I did duct tape some of the wire as an extra precaution.

mine is all gone now, has been since the first time i mounted my kit, i had it on there, but the shop that installed the kit didnt attach the splash shield properly (they didnt attach it to the kit)... it rubbed all the connections off the front piece and the two inner fender pieces rubbed the tires and now have holes in them, i am about to take them off today as a matter of fact... i am going to be ordering a new set along with a new right front fender (where i hit a mailbox after being ran off the road)
