ok... lemme just spare you from the barage of jibberish above.
First off... the EX is 9.9:1
You can get an D17A2 for cheap enough that it isn't worth your while to swap the head, ecu, tap an oil line for the solenoid, wire it up, etc....
You can probably grab a whole engine for $1200 or less. So if you gotta have it, just buy a whole engine w/ tranny and drop it in. But to be totally honest with you, you'd be better off saving a little more, buying a turbo kit that'll give you about 165 WHP on the engine you got rather than wasting money to get maybe at the most an extra 7. I don't understand why having VTEC is such a mythical thing. The engines are tuned so you have power with the timing and lift engaged, but you gotta get there first.
Honestly I'd rather take VANOS, CVTC or VarioCam and have my power the instant I stomp the gas... but I need a little more money first.

just add a turbo. there are 2 companies that sell turbo kits here. Turbo is the best gains for not so much money.
Including all the little parts that you need for a vtec swap (even parts you have to add to the fuel line), it'll probably run you $800 with only 10hp added. There are turbo kits that run for $2000 and give you 50hp more. Well worth the price.
Vtec's all over the place in cars equiped with them. It's not just 'slap the vtec head onto the engine and your works done'. there's all other pieces you have to add to make it run

just a question, but isnt a lx non vtec a lil faster off the line than an ex? i think i read sumwhere that vtec slows down the ex a lil bit when accelerating, but ex has faster top speed or wutever.

and if you have a dx....you dont need to worry about weight management
theres not a single factory option on board to weigh you down :P unless you add it on afterwards....
