universal mufflers... any difference?

I am about to run a custom dual exhaust for my civic and I was wondering if anyone knew what the best universal muffler is. I have one on now that sounds really good and I got the muffler for $70 at procarparts.com. I was wondering if anyone knew if it really made that much of a difference what muffler you put as far as performance and sound goes. The one I have one right now is not like a weed eater sound but more like a clear clean racing sound. It doesn't sound like most of the ones around here and I like it cause it is clear.

Thanks,
Zach

Also, the only real difference in universal mufflers is the look and the sound.

One more thing: A dual exhaust will kill your torque and HP. Your car is only a 1.7 L 4 Cyl. Are you expecting huge gains outta this? I think not.

noobs...

You will lose back pressure and lose any tq you had anyways if you run a dual exhaust system. Plus you have a chance of melting your fuel line or over heating your gas before it gets to the engine, which could start a fire. Don't run dual exhaust. It makes the car look faster yes, but it isn't fast. 127hp inline 4 D17 does not need dual exhaust.

Well what if I just got a better muffler and ran a straight pipe from the manifold? Would that have any more gains? Sorry im new in the import scene.

if you have an ex just get a header. Run a downpipe of 2.25" to the cat. Then run 2.25" to the muffler. That is the best thing. If you have LX you can't get a header unless you want to run without the cat because the catalytic converter is in the header. Even if you replace the cat somewhere else you will more than likely not pass inspections. So you can only run piping from the cat (which is in the header) to the muffler. Hope that helps. And I am gonna state it again. Do NOT run dual exhaust on this car it is wrong in so many different ways.
