Hybrid Engine/IMA battery system The hybrid have a very different engine and Battery system (IMA), so this forum is for items related to the Hybrid cars alone. If they are same as the regular cars, please post there instead.

Does the Hybrid Civic perform as well as the regular one? I have heard a lot about Hybrid cars not performing as well as regular cars, but I have also heard lately that more and more Hybrids run just as well as the regular cars, and Honda is always on the cutting edge of technology, so I assume they run good.

Well I dont know myself but I cant see why not. When you say perform what do you mean?
They aren't racing cars but they achieve their purpose.

No They Are Not As Fast As Regular Civics, Nor Do They Handle As Well.

The Reason For This Is First Of All Its Half Electric Cant Make The Same Power Without As Much Combustion.

Secondly The Motor Is Smaller, To Achieve Better Gas Mileage, Also Smaller Motors Are Lighter, Which Also Mean Better Gas Mileage

As Far As Handling They Dont Have As Many Suspension Reinforcements, And The Ones They Do Have Arent As Big And Effective, Once Again To Reduce Weight, And Have Better Gas Mileage

Not Yet

For now, they're designed for efficiency, but I guarantee it won't be long before they perform as well if not better than the regular ones. Knowing the Japanese, you know they will.

After driving a Honda CRV.....my 06 Hybrid feels like a NASCAR.

I must say that I am impressed with the way that it drives and handles(except in the rain) for such a small car.

I'm new here as well, just traded my '04 Honda Insight for an '07 Civic Hybrid. As to your question, not sure how much better the std Civic handles, but I just took mine oh a 700 mile round trip through the moutains of Southern CO and Northern NM. A BMW 3 Series chased me through the mountains for about 100 miles and could never get close enough to pass. Gave me the thumbs up when we got to Pagosa Springs.

The Civic hybrid is an extremely good handling car at speed, particulalrly for a front driver. Obviously not going to be as quick as the std Civic, or the Si, but on my trip I got 51.5 MPG. Says it all.

well as far as suspension goes it basically the same with the exception the Hybrid uses aluminum parts opposed to steel. I drove a regular 1.8Litre Civic EX and my Hybrid when i bought it. they drove the same to me with the exception the hybrid did not have the acceleration the EX did, but the Hybrid is definatley quiter overall.
