Is it bad to skip gears (go from 3rd to 5th)?
Is it bad to skip gears (go from 3rd to 5th)?
Sometimes when I accelerate off the light I go up to 3.5k rpm at 40mph in 3rd gear, so if I shift into 4th it'll be 2800-3000 rpm so I'll shift to 5th anyway.
So can I skip 4th gear alltogether and just go to 5th or is that bad for the car?

When I used to "row my own" many years ago... I did the 3rd to 5th quite often, when possible I also did 1st to 3rd to 5th also.

ive heard its not good, if Im going downhill I skip gears but I notice even at high RPM when skipping a gear you just go back down to 1500.
So I say only do it going downhill.

It doesn't damage it at all as long as the RPMs are in a normal operating zone... If the RPMs are gonna go sky high or drop down to nothing then it's not good, but if it's nomal t hen I can't see why it would be an issue...
technically it's probably better for the clutch because you get to avoid the unnecessary gear change, right?

Could it be bad on syncros? To properly engage into 5th you need to be coming from 4th.
