Old problem returns....

Have a '91 Civic. About a year and a half ago, had some ignition problems. Replaced the dizzy and that seemed to fix everything. Last summer, I noticed a few times that the car wouldn't start if it had been sitting in the sun all day, or driven and the stopped briefly. Had heard this was likely a relay or sensor problem that was common on older civics. Before I got around to fix it, temperatures cooled off and the problem went away. Kinda forgot about it until Thursday.

Drove the car to pick up my son from school and shut it off while I waited. After about 10 minutes, tried to start it again but it wouldn't. The engine turns over fine, but won't start. Came back when it was cool Friday morning to start it to get it home, but still no joy.

The ECU shows no error codes. Could this be the dizzy again, or it this more likely a relay or sensor issue? Just not sure where to start, but I need to get this car going again quickly.

Any ideas?

seems like a fuel delivery problem? almost sounds like vapor lock or something.

Re: Old problem returns....

I can hear the fuel pump power up when I first turn on the ignition. That is another item that I replaced along with the dizzy (although, in retrospect, I don't think it needed to be changed.)

Where is the pump relay located?

well if you hear it, the pump (and relay) is prolly fine. could be a fuel line problem. did you connect everything to the pump properly? have you measured the fuel pressure?

Re: Old problem returns....

Hey guys! I'm back (been out of commision with the flue for a while). Still haven't gotten the car going. I checked out the fuel pump relay, and it seems to be fine (I can hear the pump power up when I turn the key to the "on" position). What should I look at next? Someone suggested the crank or cam sensor? Where is that? How do I check it? Wouldn't either of those give me an error code? I am getting no error codes on the ECU. Is there an easy way to test the distributor?

The pump was replaced over a year ago, and has been running fine until recently. I don't think this has anything to do with that repair. What is the easiest way to check for fuel blockage?

well get a fuel pressure gauge and see if it reads within spec. did you replace the fuel filter recently?
