This thing about mufflers
This thing about mufflers
So I take my car in for a simple tune up and have the muffler checked as its rattling (which is never good) and the guy says I need a new part for the muffler thats gonna cost several hundred bucks
I really couldnt remember where I had bought the muffler last so while I was already in the shop (and he said that if that portion of the muffler ever breaks down its guarenteed for the life of the car) I may as well bite the bullet and do it
I have a '99 civic which I usually keep in good shape and it has over a hundred thousand miles
So whats this thing about mufflers?
Do all muffler makers build them crappy on purpose?
what do they use-- tin foil?
I seem to be changing mufflers every five or seven years
And....I figure over time as each portion of the old muffler falls apart and I eventually get the whole assembly replaced, I shouldnt have any more muffler problems (as long as I have the Honda) right?
Its just so frustrating
other than that the car has run quite smoothly
thanks in advance for your replies

Re: This thing about mufflers
If you buy a quality muffler, or catback up front you wont have them falling apart. Mines been on for over a year i guess and it still looks brand new. I even get under there and polish it from the axle back.

Same here. I did the same thing. As part of my conclusion, an owner should have a proper maintenance for it.
