Just thought i'de start this thread so people could vent some frustration.

i just got done watching a metric assload of videos **** talking the vtec and it doesnt make any since.

anybody who knows anything about v-tec doesnt talk **** about it cause they know it a good thing. my guess is they just jealous, even the STI imprezas use a form of v-tec though it is called something else

because it's not as great as people think... it's a form of higher lift cams, which don't bring in a lot of power at all. but ppl seem to think that if they have the v-tec sticker on their car they automatically have 800hp... on a 1.8l 4 cyl, u'r maybe adding 15hp REALISTICALLY to the 104hp, unless other works been done...

HAHA... then that just means you haven't driven something fast before AND you don't know what you're talking about. Do the research: It's not a turbo or something, which is something that kicks in (@ 3000rpm or so) and throws you back in the seat because of the added sudden torque. It's a higher lifting cam, allowing more air into the engine... Add maybe a few hp, nothing to write home about. Do your homework.

VTEC does manipulate the duration of valve timing and engages a secondary cam lobe to open valve further when needed and how long or short the Valve stays open. Most every manufacturer today offers some flavor of VTEC, Toyota = VVTI, Porsche = Vario-Cam , etc. Each does it in a different way, Some electronically, some hydraulically, but all are doing the same thing, vary the valve open time and engaging a secondary lobe to add additional lift depending on the need, High RPM or down low for Torque. Nobody talks **** about VTEC, they talk **** about the people who think VTEC is God. It was a great mechanical edvancement.......10 years ago. Now every car being made has variably timed cam profiles but people think their Civic is the only one with it because those cars don't say VTEC on the side of them. If people were more educated we wouldn't have to make fun of them.

****, up in Camp Lejeune they have TONS of monstang GTs and Cobras and Saleens... and the few who own S2000s and turboed vics with k20 swaps OWN them even on the track...

same or less power, but ALOT less weight and burn them like no tomorrow.

oh ya... AND the local shops up there make a killing on fixing the mustangs cuz they break down all the time...

and dont even get me started on that v8 Supra twin turboed... oh god... it was teh sex

- 1.7 litre
- you're not adding 15 horsepower
- stock is closer to 127 horsepower on a Si at the crank

A turbo, depending on the size and spool of it can kick in anywhere in the RPM range. That's why a lot of cars are twin turbo, one kicks in on low end to help with acceleration and the other kicks in at a higher RPM to help the top end. It's also why a lot of people who run a single turbo use nitrous injection on the low end to pick up for the lag. And kicking in? I wouldn't say it throws you back in any seat with any sudden torque, you've been watching too many Paul Walker movies.

Is this the same homework which tells you VTEC adds horsepower? It doesn't add anything, it changes the power band by dumping more FUEL into the engine, WTF are you talking about? Or is this the new VTEC air intake?

You're comparing 2 cars by saying which one goes faster in a straight line. An automotive enthusiast purchases a vehicle based on how fast it is in a straight line but also how well it corners and the power/weight ratio, not just the horsepower. An S2000 would out perform a Mustang GT in a full street course in any condition.

Why do you think they are the sad owners of the largest recall in automotive history? Why do you think they had to sell Aston Martin to meet their quarterly numbers? The point of my rambling is that nobody thinks the Mustang GT is a piece of trash, it's an okay car. And the new ones are much better, Ford's really brought their game back up with more quality parts and hooking up with partners like Shelby and Roush for special edition makes. But the problem with Mustangs is you....and people like you who know nothing except what their friend's dad told them about them because they've never even ridden in one. But when you're buying a brand new convertible sports car off the lot for $27,000 from a company who lost $8,000,000,000 in the last quarter, you have to wonder if you're going to make it home.

My point about asking whether people have driven an S200 is because the form of VTEC on the F series feels way different than VTEC on a D series. The F series really opens up at top its kinda cool.

Also, not sure if its the same but my Honda F3 goes buck wild after 9000rpm...so that may be a function of vtec as well
