Re: Vtec upgrades
well no not really. the car was already tuned very nicely at the factory. unless you build the engine up inside with port and polish head, valve job, new camshaft, and cam gear plus tuning on the dyno, there isnt much you can do easily.

Re: Vtec upgrades
well if you dont have much money, do the usual bolton mods like intake and exhaust, etc. i would check 8thcivic.com for brands and reviews cause they deal alot more in 06+ civics. we are mostly 01-05 here.
Re: Vtec upgrades
oh well in that case you're gonna wanna look on the 6th gen. but 197 horse is quite a bit for a 4 cylinder. he's right the easiest way to go is exhaust and intake. past that its much harder and more expensive with stuff like turbo(a couple grand) or cams(600+ and tuning). do the bolt ons and enjoy.
Re: Vtec upgrades
hahaha. no. beginners mistake. the performance comes from both the headers which allow better air flow from the engine to the tail pipe which is wider and much more efficient than the stock one. the tip is mostly for looks/sound.

Re: Vtec upgrades
99 civic is a whole different ballgame. there are TONS of parts all over and ive seen built engines (no turbo) easily make over 200whp. superchargers are dime a dozen and also boost performance quite a bit, ive seen one around 225whp with just a supercharger and few other mods. thats pretty much the best moddable honda engine.

Re: Vtec upgrades
cold air intake is just a pipe and filter that replaces the factory air box and filter. gains maybe 5hp. turbo is an actual metal turbine that attaches to the exhaust manifold and spins from exhaust blowing through it. the air then goes through an intercooler usually in the front of the air to cool the air down before it goes in the engine. basically it forces alot more air into the engine than it would ever suck in by itself. and when you have a ton more air, you need a new engine computer and some dyno time to tune the fuel so you are getting the proper ratio of air to fuel mix. can give 100hp+

Re: Vtec upgrades
ya you just gotta check around different websites and some tuner shops around your area. there are alot of parts for that year car.
Re: Vtec upgrades
he is vry new and all.
but ya, get a nice short ram intake, and a cat back exhaust and ur set. a header only helps when ur going full tilt boogy... otherwise it robs ur low end like no tomorrow.
