Gauge swap help

i have a 98 civic and looking into swaping my gauges with a 05 civic cluster. any one know if this would fit or would the be some minor customization needed

Done it before, Fuel and temp do not work along with some other random lights. Making it fit is going to take some work. I had to take mine out because for some reason when I turned the power off and back on the odometer if it was say 98.6 would round down to 98. Not sure if this is because there has to be something specific hooked up or the cluster I purchased was just f*ed.

If you notice in my video its at 42.5 and when it comes back on its on 42.

Well you are most def. going to have to cut the mounting tabs on the bottom, If I remember right the one on the top was fine. Not sure what you can do about the bezel though, you might have to fabricate that yourself because the ones for those years will not fit right in our dashes I think.

since the EEPROM can only be written to X number of times the cluster ignores the ten's digit untill u drive the remador of the mile. then it writes it.

theres a constant power wire on the cluster to keep that memory and some other things like beep when the door is open etc. if that is dead then it wint keep the ten's

Can you point the wire out to me? I will throw it back in my car if I can fix that. I have all the diagrams but Its not very detailed(I played around for hours figuring out what some of the pins did). Also Like you, I am going to eventually make a small board that will take the fuel and temp readouts(If I ever learn all this PIC programming and circuit stuff) and hopefully display it onto a 16x2 char. lcd.

the temp wouldent work but the fuel should. dont see why not.

also are we talking about a 03-05 cluster? or 01-02?

03-05 - The gauge does have a fuel wire but it is VERY far off. Like right under half a tank on the cluster is empty for my car(Almost ran out of gas because of it).

the gastank on the newer civics is almost 3 gallons bigger. that and it could use a diffrent sensor in the tank. that could cause the gas problem.

as for the memorymakesure theres a wht/red wire at A16. thats the green plug (i remimber it as B = blue so A must be green.) and looking at the plug wires facing u u count it like this:

(edit it wont let me show multiple spaces. if u dont understand as is i'll try somting diffrent

make sure it's got 12v at key off/ removed and also check #9 fuse under the hood.

also cant hurt to check the grounds; A11 & B11, and ignition power; A15 though #15 under dash fuse.

Sorry been really busy trying to get my CarPC finished up and Im almost there. I'll eventually get back onto this project as soon as Im done with the CarPC but I have a question, how does the fuel wire work? Is it just a voltage sent to the dash? What I'm thinking is you could put a relay on it to trick the dash into thinking the gas is lower and making it more accurate. I am still contemplating how I could get the temp gauge to work.

the gas wire sends a resistance to the level of the gas in the tank. i dont know witch way it goesd but u should have more or less ohms when full than when empty. if u were good at electrronics u could play with resister ladders and or op amps and recalibrate it to be correct.

**** I totally meant resistor in my post above, don't know why I said relay. Well maybe it would work if the more resistance the lower it goes, cause if its the other way around I'm not sure how to fix that.

Problem I tried that today and it still doesnt save the mileage.
