A Cautionary Tale

i was thinking of putting this in the accidents/crashes thread, however looking at the outcome, i believe this is more appropriate
so i will begin my saga... lol

i was driving on rt 6 in rhode island (just in case any of you are familiar with it) on my way to a meeting today. most of it is conducive to higher speed driving (it for the most part being a lesser congested highway of mostly straightaways) and so i usually drive quite fast through it (prob like 80 in a 55... yes i know.. bad)
well anyways today it was around 18 degrees in my area and there was hardly anyone on the road so i was moving at a brisker pace. right before my exit on the highway tho there is a quite sharp curve. normally at that point, traffic is starting to build up and i am forced to slow down to 60 before it and its no problem.
With almost no cars on the road however, the curve snuck up on me.
All i remember is getting to it and thinking "****... im going to fast" and subsequently braking...
It was at that point that my car started to spin at around 75mph.
thats when i think to myself "**** im facing backwards.... **** im facing bacwards!"
i ended up cutting the wheel in the opposite direction and finished my spin facing the right direction, stalled out in my lane.

miraculously i did not hit anything

i then started the car and proceeded to drive the rest of the way at 55 mph.
it wasnt until i reached my final destination... my destination that i started to freak out about what happened.

so there are three things i learned today
1. Dont speed. dont speed. dont speed.
2. The cold makes your tires less sticky (something i had ironically been thinking about earlier in the day but had never actually experienced)
3. Dont listen to the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack whilst driving. it makes it easier to speed.

so guys, learn from my near disasterous experience and drive carefully!

ahah thankfully not... im just like... wow. im not pushing my luck any more.

the strange thing is that it happened so fast that i didnt get to freak out during it. like all i could think of is about how im facing the wrong direction and how it was almost like an out of body experience. i dont know. just try not to experience it yourself lol

Your lucky you didn't hit anything. And I know what you mean when you say out of body experience because this happened to me on rt 30 in PA. I was getting off (and no it didn't sneak up on me I knew it was there) but I was young and dumb then (I'm still young but not as dumb now) and it was wet out. I was doing about 55-60 in a 40, lol and lost it doing something like a 240 and went over a low median (like one of those slanted curb jobbies) and came to a stop. No damage done, just a lesson learned. It was quite odd going backwards at one point, it just felt... I don't know, ungodly... Ha. But yea, you lucked out. Drive safe!
