Declining fuel mileage

First Happy New Year to all. As a new Civic owner and now a new forum member I would appreciate any thoughts that you may have as advice.

I purchased my new '07 Civic EX last June mainly to compete with rising fuel costs. I have tracked my fuel consumption with every tank as this was the main reason for purchasing my Civic. I understand the various factors that effect MPG estimates, driving conditions, tire pressure, hard stopping and/or fast acceleration, etc. but after seeing true 30 MPGs for the first month or two I have noticed a marked decrease in the efficiency that I am getting now. My driving habits have not changed at all, driving mainly to and from work about 35-40 miles a day non highway miles. I have watched my MPG drop from 30 MPG down to now 24.4 MPG with my fill up this morning. I would typically get 300+ miles per tank and now experience anywhere from 230 to 250 miles. I have approximately 5K miles on my Civic and have already had one oil change. I love the car but am somewhat disappointed in the lower than expected true MPG. I have brought it in to the dealer for the oil change as the first two were offered free and have mentioned it to them but they more or less brushed off my concern stating that the MPGs indicated were only an estimate. I would like to know if others have experience what I would consider roughly a 20% drop in fuel efficiency.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Declining fuel mileage

try changing your trannny fluid. Also, have you been carrying heavy stuff? Like fat chicks carpooling or new stereo equipment?

Not carrying any fat chicks or stereo equipment, change my tranny fluid? Did I mention that the car is new with only 5,000 miles on it?

Re: Declining fuel mileage

Are you purchasing the same gas? Try a different octane (midgrade) for a week and compare. Maybe the weather has affected your consumption a bit.
