Non-Turbo Blow off?
Re: Non-Turbo Blow off?
I've seen this before...someone posted about it awhile back. I believe its a "BOV" only its in your exhaust pipe. Basically you let off the gas, and it releases exhaust to make the noise. Why you would want to do that is way beyond me...thats the ultimate in rice.

Re: Non-Turbo Blow off?
Considering the car would always be in vacuum it would never "Blow off".
This is the stupidest thing ever.
Just from this post, I think you are a ricer and some non ricer came over and looked at your car. He then started up a conversation and made the suggestion. You then being a ricer thought it was a good idea and came here for support.
So, did I even get close?

Re: Non-Turbo Blow off?
I understand that. Thats why I put "BOV" its not a true BOV. It just mimics its noise, but because the intake can't produce positive pressure you have to go to something that does, which is the exhaust. Rice is rice anyway you fry it.

Re: Non-Turbo Blow off?
You all suck at life.
An N/A car will build a little bit of boost (i.e. show positive pressure - very small, but there). Put a boost gauge on it and see. That being said, yes it's rice.
Matt, that's not what Pitch is talking about. Yes a WG is exhaust-related, but it goes on the manifold. This what he's talking about:
TURBO/BOV SOUND on N/A Blow Off Valve Horn !!
* JDM Type-R ALUMINUM Turbo BOV Horn (Get the turbo sound without the Turbo).
* Own a Non-Turbo and want the BOV Swoosh Sound? Want others to hear the sound or TURBO spooling up without spending thousands on a turbo system??
* Then get this easy to install BOV/Turbo Horn that will give you the pretige of a turbocharged car without the $$$.
* Or end yourself because you're a ricer ***.
* This is the trick many Movie producers use, and will keep a smile on your face time and time again.

Well, I completely understand not being able to afford big mods. That being said, you may want to focus on things that will make a difference in how your car responds than on nitnoid cool-sounding things. Yes a BOV has a fantastic sound, and you could probably get an Ebay knock-off one and make it work on a NA car, but that's $50 you could have put towards a sway bar that will actually make a difference on the car.
Just think twice about it, that's all we're asking. Nothing wrong with taking two years to get all the things you want to boost the car. That's how long it took me to figure out how boost works, then figure how to boost a Honda, then figure out how to boost a D17, and finally start buying parts while I was saving up money during the research phase.
No need to rebuild your motor if you run a sensible amount of boost. She handles 5-7 psi just fine.

You've got a 2000 EX? Then the sky's the limit my friend. You can build a reliable setup for about $1000 on one of those. Two websites (aside from this one) will help you immensely, d-series.org and homemadeturbo.com. Just browse about some before posting. You'll see what I mean.
Re: Non-Turbo Blow off?

Re: Non-Turbo Blow off?
your original Post cracked me up...
I would feel like such an idiot if I had a non turbo BOV and someone heard it... wanted to race and then realized I didn't have a turbo. Also if your going to get a fake BOV then your going to need a fake FMIC if you want to pretend to have boost go all the way lol.
Boost is my specialty and Speedfoos is right. The D series engine can handle a decent amount of boost (5-8 psi) with the right tune and proper temp control. Homemadeturbo.com is a great site. If you really want to learn all about boost I recomend picking up "Maximum boost" by corkey bell. He explains all about boost.
