Re: 96 EX Alternator Problems

Could you be overtightening the belt perhaps?

Sometimes on old belt will squeal and sound like a bad bearing. Try a new belt.

Re: 96 EX Alternator Problems

nono, its no squal lol at first it sounded like the my fan was grinding or something, but then my friend looked at it (him knowing way more about cars tahn me) and he looked at the mount where the alternator belt rotates and he could tell it was wobbly .. sooo .. if i were to drive it til the alternator goes out .. wouldnt the alternator go out by the belt falling off and me basically totalling my engine?

Re: 96 EX Alternator Problems

Definitely sounds like the belt is being overtightened.

But if your alt failed for some reason, you would not ruin the engine. Your car would run off the battery untill it died and then your engine would shut off.

Re: 96 EX Alternator Problems

so your saying if i just got a new belt it'd stop doing it? bc i remember we my engine has a lil noise to it that sounds like a loose alternator belt so we tightened it a while back but it was fine until now .. (the squealing noise was just a general noise the 1.6 sohc vtec makes) or would my alternator be gone because of the bearings in it going out?
