Cigarette Lighter and Gauges Wont Work...
I recently put footwell lights in a 2000 Honda Civic 2Dr. I tapped into the cigarette lighter for a 12v source and sparked the positive and negative once before I taped off a cut wire.
Now the cigarette lighter doesn't work and the gauges wont light up at night. Does anyone know of which fuse I might have blown? I looked in the manual and visually checked the interior fuse pannel but none seemed to be blown.
I also had this problem in my GMC Sonoma, same install of the lights and everything, where the gauges wouldn't light up and the cigarette lighter wouldn't supply power.
Does anyone know which fuse to check or is there another problem that can be fixed/replaced? Thanks all in advanced!

Just to update, I had some time with the car last night and noticed two fuses were blown. One controlled the cigarette socket and the other fixed a beeping alarm when the keys were forgotten in the ignition.
I still can't get the gauges to light up. There's a fuse that says Instrument Illumination. That fuse is good but the gauges wont light up at night.
Any ideas?

Actually I'm pretty sure I figured out what it is. I didn't think mentioning I just installed a Pioneer deck would be of any concern. The wiring harness for the deck has an illumination wire (orange with white stripe) and I hooked that up to the existing gauge illumination wire back there. I'm leaning more towards that since it is the only thing that could constantly ground out the power going to the gauges.
5.25" in the doors.
6x9's in the rear/trunk?

It's not the radio. I cut off the illumination wires simply because they're not needed. I checked every fuse in the fuse pannel with a green light tester, even checked every fuse under the hood in that sub pannel. All were good, even the Instrument Illumination fuse. I took apart the gauge assembly and checked every bulb in the gauge cluster. All were good.
Im at a loss for what to do next. I'm about ready to throw in the towel and take it to a Honda dealer.
Anything else I might have overlooked?

before you do that go into the fuse panel w/ a 12 volt test light.. you're losing power somewhere.. try to track at what point you're losing power.. turn the lgihts on and the dimmer all the way up, and test the fuse for current.. on both sides.. sometimes it can look fine but be blown.. jsut a thought.. where are you located? not in texas i'm guessing.. otherwise i'd look at it for you...
Just to follow up. I brought it into the dealership and they found it was the dimmer switch. Not that I didn't have it turned up, but instead that it was fried completely. Funny I didn't catch that either because I took that pannel apart. Apparently it was black from being grounded out.
Part is $65 and car is all good now.
