Rep Power: 0 Intermittent Check Oil Light on '96 Civic
Hi,
I have a '96 Civic DX 166k miles and my check oil light flicker for a split second when i start the car with "cold" (not really cold just not used it for say overnight) engine. When starting the car warm it doesn't show such behavior.
I just got the car and will have it for a month or so. The oil level is fine and doesn't leak or get less by the time. I suspect the oil change was done 10-15k miles ago. So i am suspecting either the oil should be change or the oil pump is failing on me. Or it it a normal behavior?
All comment appreciated!

uh well, 10 to 15k miles on a car with 166k miles on a single oil change is a bit much. i suggest you change it now. even if it doesn't fix the problem, it's still a good idea.

you're supposed to get it changed every 3-5k miles if I remember correctly (I use kms.... so yeah.)

I have no ways to lift the car just by the jack. Should i do the oil change by myself? I'm fairly good technical guy. Or better take it to some shop? How much i can expect to pay for oil change?
thx

like $30-40 at a shop for an oil change.
It doesn't really matter.. if you want to save yourself the money and embarrassment of taking a car that hasn't had its oil changed in 15,000 miles in then go ahead and do it yourself. If you want to save the time, take it to the shop.

DIY, undo the cap on top of the engine, put catch pan under the oil pan, undo drain bolt. let drain. put drain bolt back on, fill with oil, put cap back on.
or 30$ at jiffy lube and they'll check/fill ur other fluids too i think.
