Re: Quarts of Trans Oil ?
auto is 2.9 and manual is less then 2 like everyone said and i work for honda and DO NOT put anything but the honda manual tran fluid its the best like bomberman said and if you have a auto dont use anything but the honda stuff either these trans's dont like anything but honda stuff. i have seen many come in with problems because of aftermarket fluid being used.. Just my 2 cents coming from a honda tech.

Re: Quarts of Trans Oil ?
I'll agree partly with using Honda MTF only, just because its oem, so there's nothing wrong with it. I have heard people using Redline, and having problems with it. I'm using Amsoil MTF, works way better than Honda MTF. Shifts are smoother with Amsoil. Yes I've done tranny fluid changes with both MTF's, 2 weeks a part from each other. 2 weeks using Honda MTF, and 2 weeks using Amsoil MTF.
Amsoil wins hands down. I've been using the Amsoil MTF for 2 years now. No problems with my tranny at all.
For manual tranny, its around 1.6 quarts. I would say anywhere between 1.6-1.8 quarts. You definitely don't need 3 quarts. I know this for a fact. I do my tranny fluid changes every year.

Re: Quarts of Trans Oil ?
i use honda fluid for everything except the engine oil. their products are far superior to the stuff at the local auto store and can cause serious problems over time. bottom line if you care about your car at all and keeping it for the long haul, stick with the honda fluids. there are obviously a few exceptions like amsoil mentioned above. ive seen auto trans break before using mobil1 fluid.
Re: Quarts of Trans Oil ?
So where are you guys(Gearbox. :P) getting the MTF? I have a '97 Ex 5speed. Do you all buy it online, or where at? I think I'm going to do a fluids flush and i need to get some tranny fluid.

Re: Quarts of Trans Oil ?
the ams oil really is that good?? i never tried it. i have the ability to change my trans fluid monthly for free with honda fluid if i want so i just stay using that but maybe ill give that amsoil a try.

Re: Quarts of Trans Oil ?
3/8's ratchet to undo the drain plug bucket to catch
put the drain plug back in tight.
and look next to the end of the starter were the backup light switch is plugged into the trans unhook the wire and un-screw the sensor and take a small funnel stick it in the hole were the sensor goes and add 1.6 quarts.
stick sensor back in hook up wire
good to go

Re: Quarts of Trans Oil ?
Imo honest, yeah I think Amsoil is that much better. However, if you're changing your tranny fluid every month, it should shift relatively smooth at all times anyway, so I don't know if I would change if I were you. You should definitely try amsoil though. If you don't like it, just put OEM Honda MTF instead.
