FRAM or Honda oil filter?
technically, there are two oil filters that honda has. one that is made by fram, and the other made by a different company.
and i suggest getting the one made by that different company. fram sucks

Okay.... more bad information.
First of all, just because it is made by Fram doesn't mean it sucks. That's like saying your Ford sucks... but most people don't think the Ford GT sucks. The Honda filter that was made by Fram had twice the pleates of tradition Fram filter, I've posted numerous pictures of these all over this section.
But here is the biggest flaw of this thread, and I already mentioned it. Honda OEM filter were made by Fram, as in they are no longer made by Fram. The information you have is out dated, the new ones are made by some Japanese company and yes they are worth it. I pay $12 for 3 of them, so they aren't really that costsly.

I think you can get part number 15400-PLM-A02, where the A02 is made by Nippon. Those are the ones I have. Not sure which is better, it's just what they gave me.
FRAM is Honeywell
I called around to local Honda dealers and they ONLY CARRY the 15400-PLM-A02. The part is stamped with Honeywell. It is not Nippon or Filtech. It is STILL made by FRAM.
Did a search on the web for Honeywell filters and found this:
http://www.fram.com/company/news.php
Headquartered in Danbury, CT, FRAM® is a unit of Honeywell Consumer Products Group, which manufactures and markets FRAM® Oil, Air, Transmission and Fuel Filters; Prestone® Antifreeze/Coolant and Car Care products; Autolite® Spark Plugs and Ignition Wire Sets; and Holts® Car Care products.
With six North American research and development, manufacturing, and marketing locations in Greenville, Ohio; Perrysburg, Ohio; Clearfield, Utah; Danbury, Conn.; Mississauga, Ontario; and Stratford, Ontario; FRAM® employs state-of-the-art process control and automated inspection equipment to assure that products are made on time and meet rigorous internal and customer requirements. The plants combined have also earned a number of quality certifications including ISO 14001 and ISO/QS 9000. Today FRAM® is known as America's number one oil filter brand, and the FRAM® team continues to manufacture and market a variety of quality oil, air and fuel filters, as well as many automotive accessories such as PCV valves, crankcase filters and transmission modulators.
Confirming that the Honda filter is a FRAM would you pay the extra money and use the Honda (FRAM) one or just buy the FRAM (orange one) for less? Any other oil filter to recommend?

okay, here we can clearly see the Fram filter on the right and the Honda OEM made by Fram on the left. Notice the number of pleets, or the amount of filter material, it's twice as much for the Honda one made by Fram, thant he Fram one you go buy in the store. There is a difference in the filters. By the way, top filters are the one for the S2000 and the bottom ones are for the civic, the top left one (the S2000 OEm one) is not made by Fram/Honeywell.
Yes, this is the same regardless if it says Honeywell or Fram, Honey well bought Fram a few years ago.
Yes they do make anouther one, made by Nippon (or some Japaneese company like that). I'll take a picture of it and post it up later if you guys really think it is a figment of my imagination. That will probably be Monday since I won't be around Sunday.
EDIT*****
Here is the Honda OEM filter specifically for the civic

15400-PLM-A01 vs 15400-PLM-A02 vs FRAM
Thanks for the pictures but you're not comparing the same filter. Do you have a comparison of the Honda (Honeywell/FRAM)15400-PLM-A02?
I cannot get the Honda 15400-PLM-A01, only the 15400-PLM-A02 is available at my dealers.

Those pictures are of a filtech honda filter. Not of a honeywell/fram honda filter.
honeywell/fram honda filter.

Theres an image at the bottom. apparently overboost.com doesnt allow hotlinking.

Actually the civic Fram filter is on there. The yop two filters are for the S2000, the bottom two are the civic filters, the bottom left filter specifically is the Fram 15400-PLM-A02 filter you are asking about and the bottom right fitler is the Orange Fram filter you buy in the store. I should have edited the S2000 filters out, but I'm lazy

What about the K&N filter? Does that suck? I've used it a bunch in the past and I love it, but I don't know how it stacks up when you rip it open and all that.

I use these babies. Going to be a while till their used up. All of them made by Fram. I had the a few of the filters made by honeywell, and their identical to the ones made by Fram.
Bitog....bitog.....
Lively discussion here. I like.
However, BobIsTheOilGuy.com forums have a lot of gearheads seriously interested in this stuff. Definitely take a look at their filter comparisons and the cut-open of a K&N filter. The thing is built like a brick shithouse.
Personally, I used to use the K&N filter sized for the civic. It gives better flow but slightly worse filtering than a Mobil-1 or a honda OEM (Made by nippon or champion, not fram) to get that flow. Right now I use Mobil 1 filters, even though they are a bit expensive ($10 at autozone, sometimes on sale for like 8)
I also use a different size. The M1-104 size is the spec for the s-2000 before honda made the decision to have one size fits all filters for their 4-cylinder cars. The 104 has a lot more filter media but the same pressure specs on the bypass valve and the same screw / gasket size. It even conveniently fits in the filter location without any more of a pain in the neck install than a usual size filter. Can't really go wrong with more media, so I use it. Anyone else do this?
Oh, s-2000man, are you the same one on BITOG forums as well?

ehh...where did u buy that filter??
jrfish: in my local dealer, they stopped selling A01 and start selling A02 instead...
anybody else's dealer still selling A01?
EDITED:
not bad for being $6.79 a piece!!!
are you sure that this particular model will work on our D17 engine??
