i just called honda today about the timing belt. i first got a thing in the mail saying 70k. and then another dealer said 80. and then the last two times, i got 90k-100k. so...i'm thinking that 90-100k is the correct one, but it could be they were just trying to get money from me as those notices came as i reached those mileage points.

Rep Power: 428 the timing belt should be changed at 110K miles or earlier if you drive in severe conditions or when the belt wears out. As for the coolant, they say it will go 100K miles, but I changed it at 50K and then again at 90K, thats because I drive alot. The tranny fluid I would recommend every 20K miles or so.

Rep Power: 787 i would do timing belt every 60k and replace the crank pulley with new. auto tranny fluid every 10k, oil change every 3k (or 10k with lc20), coolant whenever freezing point isn't low enough (measure with the floaty *****). But that's cause i love my car.

I called 2 Honda Dealerships on recommended parts to replace when doing my timing belt and they recommended the following:
1.) Replace Alternator Belt
2.) Replace Power Steering Belt
3.) Replace Water Pump & Water Pump Gasket
4.) Timing Belt Tensioner
5.) Timing Belt Tensioner Bolt (its only like $2 or something)
6.) OIL SEAL
7.) Replace Timing Belt
Who recommended you replace the crank pulley? Just wondering because I have a 2001 Civic with 92k miles and will be performing this service now.
Also, is the seal your talking about the oil seal (#19) in this picture?

Thanks,
Oren

Rep Power: 787 there are two seals one is cam seal and the other is prolly oil. The crank pulley doesn't last very long because the rubber damper breaks apart over time. Usually around 60k miles. I pulled mine out and the rubber was already cracked and broken in many spots. The rubber is the damper that makes the pulley do its job and absorb crank vibration.
there is no need to replace accessory belts. they can be done anytime relatively easily by loosening a few bolts. also the timing belt tensioner almost never has a problem and is expensive too. no need to do that.
i feel so stupid taking to a shop to change the belt. now that i think about it, the manual makes it seem so easy compared to the head swap I'm gonna try this summer. Now that I know how its done, i can't see how they get away with charging so much. It really seems like a simple job. Pull off a few plastic covers, loosen the tensioner, pull off belt and put new on. check timing and done.

Just talked with someone from Majestic Honda. The two seals to replace are:
1.) Camshaft Seal - #19
2.) Crankshaft Oil Seal - #16
Thanks again,
Oren
