Rep Power: 292 Approaching 70k Miles: What Maintenance to Be Done?
It's sad to think about it, but my once brand new 2001 Honda Civic is getting old. My next oil change will be at 70k miles and I have done nothing to maintain it except change the oil and the brake pads. I cleaned my Injen intake filter once with soap and water, but that was it. Is there anything important that needs to be done at this point?
Now that I think about it, I have already had a tranny flush when I replaced my transmission at 42k miles. A friend of mine has told me that I should be replacing my timing belt soon or it'll snap and I'll lose control of the car.
I've spoken to my dad about this and he think the timing belt is a bunch of BS. My dad has driven 4 cars to their death (about 160k miles each), and never changed his timing belt once.
So what needs to be done to extend the life of my car?

Rep Power: 428 the manaul states the timing belt doesnt need to be changed untill 110,000 miles. Sooner depending on your driving conditions or when you notice the belt is starting to crack or deform.
Does your dad understand what might happen if your timing belt breaks while driving? Tell him it is not a bunch of BS.
Mostly I would recommend you change your oil, drain and refill the tranny fluid (every 15-20K), check the air filter, check the coolant. Just simple stuff.

Rep Power: 0 Don't forget your pollen filters! It wouldn't hurt to drain & refill your a/c system........should be done every 2.5 years. I also would change the spark plugs as well. Even at 30,000 miles on my 02 Civic, I changed the spark plugs.
Since I've reached 30K on my car, I'm going to get a transmission flush with ATF+4, valve adjustment, and all belts changed to Goodyear Gatorback belts.
