Aftermath of additives with oil change...
I recently changed my oil, and i filled it up with Mobil 1 synthetic 5w-20, and used a quart of lucas oil stabilizer, dont remember the exact product. I noticed an immediate rise in mpg, and more stabile idle. I think additives in our engines can respond quite well together. This is my first time trying an additive in the cars 25,000 mile life so far, so my question is why do people continue to say things such as this are bad for our engines ? It doesnt matter if its a Chevy, Honda or Nissan. A block is a block, and a cylinder head is a cylinder head wether its a d17 or a LS1. I dont think honda uses special metals or materials in there engines, so if other people can do it in there different manufactuered cars, whats the big deal doing it in a honda ?

I dont know anything about lucas oil stabilizer, so i can't comment on that product. There are some products out there that do well, but they are few and far between. The products sold by this forum's sponsor, lubcontrol.com, are excellent. Several experts only use lubecontrol products.
IMO, i'd never use anything that requires a full quart to be put into the engine. Addatives will dilute the oil or make it thinner/watery, and thus, make it less effective at doing its job. So using a full 1 quart of some addative is not my cup of tea.

I can understand why you say you wouldnt use a quart of additive, but on the bottle it said its supposed to help elminate dry starts, this would be helpful for me as sometimes my car can sit up to a week or so before being started again, so i guess it was a personal preference...
hmm Lucas oil stabilizer. I wouldnt use that if you paid me. There was a ton of testing done by some Supraforums members on different oils. The Lucas stuff was so thick that when mixed the recommended amount with regular oil (Castrol I think) and thrown in the freezer it turned the consistency of thick jello. Even at room temp it was way thick.
It has great protection, but what good is it if the oil can't flow?

Some testing of additives was done here. Specifically, Lucas products.

It sounds like the Lucas might just be a very light weight petroleum-based product, lightening the 5w20 even further. It's probable that this could result in increased MPG, but I wonder how well the Mobil1 that's left is protecting.
I would use either of the following: Auto-RX (which I use) and Lube Control (forum sponsor).
ARX is one of the few products that isn't snake oil and it does exactly what it says it will without causing harm to your engine. Well worth every penny.
Lube Control is something I haven't used but not because I don't think it works. On the contrary, members of BITOG give it accolades. I don't use it because I have a few bottles of ARX in my garage.
A lot of super duper additives are noothing more than mineral oil with coloring or fragrance. ARX and LC are in a category all by themselves.
