Fuel, Oil, Cleaners & Other MaintenanceExtending the life of your Civic requires the proper fuel, oil, and cleaners, along with other regularly scheduled maintenance.
yeah the new honda trannys need lubricants with finer molecules. Gearbox is right, any other tranny fluid for the auto and manual 7thgens will cause extreme premature wear. I have heard a few nightmares about people using other stuff(worn syncos and shift problems for manuals/shifting probs for autos, etc.... Honda makes quality lubricants why use anything else??? If you use lucas or royal purple it will not help anyhting. Yes they make awesome stuff but its not good for our cars.
DAM U PPL!!! What does "DONT USE ANY OTHER TRANNY FLUID BUT HONDA!!!!!!!" That u dont understand!!!!!!!?????? Listen to Gearbox!! PPL who know hondas never use anyother ATF fluid than hondas!!!!
ATTENTION!
USE ONLY HONDA ATF.
MESS AROUND WITH ANY OTHER BS AND YOU WILL BE SORRY. $10 A QUART ON AMAZON.
HEAT CAR TO OPERATING TEMP. OR UNTIL FAN TURNS ON. TURN CAR OFF. EMPTY TRANSMISSION. FILL WITH 2.5 QT. THEN ADD UNTIL FULL. DO NOT OVERFILL. SHAZAM YOUR DONE.
after all the posts about what NOT to do...I doubt your tranny will last 40k miles after that. Sorry but you did everything wrong. I would drain that out as much as possible, put honda atf back in, and never use a suction pump again.
Pls all these write-ups on honda civic ATF, I'm still not clear, as I have an HONDA CIVIC 2006, what's the actual name of the ATF that I need to buy. Is it Dexron III, OEM etc. Thanks

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

You need to know which type of transmission your particular car is equipped with. Then get the fluid appropriate for that transmission in your car.
Some units may have a fluid info label attached on or near the dipstick.....
