But no, those are not normal conditions. You are creating alot of heat and the car is not continously going fast enough to cool the bottom of the engine, the oil will start to break down much quicker, hence one reason why high way driving can go far longer per oil change. But trakc cars are continously being pushed to the limits, and hence everything will break down at an accelerated rate. But if you do 3k worth of track racing, you probably already know this, and you alreayd know when to change your oil
The real answer is: get your oil tested if you track race that much. Check things like the TBN and all that.

Rep Power: 230 I have a '04 HCH, which I put more than 35k miles per year on. I change it at 10k. The dealer did the first three and I will do them from here on in. I am changing to full 0w-20 synthetic at 40k.
The manual says 10k unless you run under harsh conditions. I run my HCH 120 every working day, 70 miles on interstate 40 on country roads, 10 on light city highways. On a good day, I may stop three times on the way to work.
BTW, I have a lmpg of 51.6 and currently get 58+ mpg and 700+ mile range.

Rep Power: 0 Ay man, I slipped and had too much on my mind the last few months! I went 12,000 miles without an oil change. I changed at 12,000 miles...no extreme driving...just city/highway...I hope I am alright...I usually change at 5,000-7,000 miles....I used a oem honda oil filter and castrol 5w/20 this time.

Don't forget about your trans fluid (either manual or auto)! I'd change that every 15,000 miles just to be safe.

Re: 10,000 mile oil change
Now, that I decided to use synthetic and change it........ 7,500 miles... Make sense!!!!
I have HONDA CIVIC 2004, always oil changed by regular oil and 93000 miles on it.
I heard about AMSOIL ....
Reporting Oil change only in 25,000 miles.
Is this true?
Dave

only if you follow their instructions and use their hi capacity (and expensive) oil filters. i usually go 10k with LC20 additive and feel bad throwing it out because the oil looks perfectly fine.

u want to know if ur oil is still good @ 7,500 miles? get a UOA report from a lab (used oil analysis) by sending a sample of ur oil in.
thats the ONLY....i repeat ONLY want to know if changing oil @ 7500 or 5000 or 10000 is ok for YOU and YOUR car.
every drives differently, every engine is different.....
the GENERAL (not factual) rule of thumb is you can safely change ur oil over 5k miles with good oil.....(test after test with many people getting a UOA report)

thats nice, but changing oil too often can actually be worse and the new oil additives will foul out the catalytic converter faster. not to mention, throwing away perfectly good oil. just so you know.

^ like Gearbox said, most of us here maintain our cars methodically, but changing your oil every 2k miles is a waste. Save you time and money and dedicate it towards something else related to maintaining you car.

Re: 10,000 mile oil change
Thread revival.
Changing your oil at 3k is a waste of money. The only time you should change your oil at 3k/3month is if your autocrossing or road racing on conventional oil.
Racing oil:
Every 2500 miles (1/2 severe interval). There are little to no detergents in this type of oil. It will sludge very quickly once the oil has broken down. Provides very high protection with little burn off for a short amount of time.
Synthetic oil:
Racing use, 5000 miles or 6 months (severe interval). Filter: Purolator PureOne, Bosch Premium, Fram Tough Guard
Normal DD use, 10000 miles or 12 months (normal interval). Filter: Purolator Synthetic, Bosch Distance+, Fram Ultra
I wouldnt hesitate to do 15000 miles / 12 months on Amsoil oil/filter combo if i drove vast distances often.
Synthetic Blend & Conventional:
Racing use, 3000 mile or 3 months. Filter: Purolator Classic, Honda OEM
Normal DD use, 5000 miles or 6 months (severe interval). Filter: Purolator PureOne, Bosch Premium, Fram Tough Guard
^^This schedule can be adopted to really any car that does not have a OLM. I use it and have used it on every car ive own with 0 issues.
Personal story:
I autocross the **** out of my 04 Accord V6 6-speed (96k miles). Between May and October (race season), i change my oil every 3750 miles (severe interval) using Pennzoil Ultra and Purolator PureOne filter. After the final event, i finish out my 3750 OCI and fill with Pennzoil Ultra and Bosch Distance+ filter. I leave this in till next May.
With my Civic LX 5-speed (173k miles) i DD it in the snow and for work. I use Pennzoil conventional every 5000 with a Purolator PureOne filter.
Neither of my cars burn oil, at all. The D17 engine is super easy on oil which is why the OCI is so high. My point is, dont try to second guess what the engineers specced the car for. They have gotten Honda this far, i dont think there gonna recommend something to stop longevity. Also, oil technology has rapidly expanded, name brand oils can do these intervals no problems.

Re: 10,000 mile oil change
pennzoil ultra is the number 1 synthetic oil. yes over mobil 1. i currently work a an oil changing place as a side job. synthetic is 5000k and conventional is 3000k. ive seen the **** that comes out of peoples engines when they go over that

Re: 10,000 mile oil change
Pennzoil Ultra is not the #1 synthetic oil. However i would agree it is that best oil that you can buy at your local Walmart or Autozone. The best oil, strictly looking at data sheets would be either Redline or Amsoil. In the 0w-xx they are about equal, but in the 5w-xx Redline kills Amsoil. But you also have to consider that Amsoil is marketed as a extended performance oil, Redline is not. I am not bias because I have never used Amsoil or Redline strictly looking at numbers. Pennzoil Ultra is inferior to Redline, except for the two things. Ultra has a higher TBN, and it is about half the price.
In regards to how much **** falls out of an engine when you change the oil, if there is actual pieces of sludge coming out then there is a major issue. Not just going over 3k on conventional. Going 5k on a synthetic during normal driving is a waste, you could easily go double that. Some engines beat up oil more than others, hence why different cars have different OCI. My Neon ran conventional every 3k. Why? Because thats what the "severe interval" said. See chart i made.
